Elon Musk has helped President Donald Trump destroy important parts of the U.S. federal government over the past three months. Tesla’s CEO illegally demolished the U.S. Agency for International Development, has gained access to highly sensitive personal data about Americans and helped clear at least 120,000 government workers. Musk also gave his business preferential treatment, causing a huge conflict of interest. According to the new poll, most Americans really don’t like it.
According to a poll by Washington Post-ABC News, only 35% of Americans agree with the way Musk handles his work in the Trump administration. 57% of Americans say they don’t approve of Musk. If you don’t like what Musk is doing, you really don’t like it, and 46% strong Disapprove of Musk’s work, not just “some” disapprove of it.
President Trump performed better in the new poll than Musk, but he did not perform well. Only 39% of Americans agree with the work he is doing, while 55% disagree with it. A CNN poll conducted over the weekend showed Trump’s approval was 41%, the lowest in the first 100 days of any newly elected president, back to the 1950s.
Musk’s number of endorses is the best among American men, with 38% saying they like what he is doing, while 56% of men don’t like Musk. But Musk’s popularity with women is really bad, with only 29% saying they approve of billionaires’ work in the government, while 60% saying they don’t.
Musk is the most popular, aged 50-64, about the Gen X crowd, although that generation doesn’t like him that much. In the poll, only 42% of Gen X said they favor Musk, while 52% said they disagree. The billionaire is the least popular among the 18-29-year-olds, with 62% disapproving Musk and only 25% agreeing.
Musk is also very unpopular with those with advanced degrees. Up to 66% of Americans with graduate degrees disapprove of Musk, but the uneducated population broke down and liked what Musk was doing. 55% of Americans without a college degree said they disapprove of what Musk did to destroy the government.
Being decomposed by race, crosstalk becomes more distinct. Only 11% of black Americans favor Musk, and 74% disagree. Only 26% of Hispanics favor Musk and 64% disagree. This is not a shock given Musk’s extreme racist comments on social media. As for white Americans, Musk’s polls are better, but he’s still unpopular. Only 43% approved it, and 50% disapprove it.
These numbers are interesting, but no matter how you slice it, it probably won’t be surprising. Musk’s so-called Ministry of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been picking up chainsaws to the federal government, and there is absolutely no benefit. The billionaire claims he is addressing “waste, fraud and abuse” but only unilaterally cancels plans, contracts and institutions that he doesn’t like. Musk has no legal authority to do anything, but that doesn’t stop him.
In fact, the Trump administration argued in court that Duger was not bound by the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) because it was only a suggestion rather than a cut. This assertion contradicts everything Musk said publicly to his honor to destroy things. Congress alone has the ability to create and destroy institutions, but just one example, Musk is praised for abolishing the U.S. Agency for International Development, a move that is expected to kill tens of millions of people around the world.
The study estimates that the destruction of U.S. International Development will result in 15.2 million AIDS deaths, 2.2 million deaths from tuberculosis and other causes of child deaths increased by 7.9 million over the next 15 years. The study also estimates that there will be another 4-550,000 unplanned pregnancy and about 120-16 million unsafe abortions.
What must American taxpayers show for Doge’s behavior? At least we all get fat refund checks from all these so-called government savings, right? No. As the New York Times reported, the Public Services partnership found that Musk’s chaos in federal recruitment would cause about $135 billion in shooting, releasing, paid leave and losing productivity. And, when federal workers are fighting illegal shooting, that’s not even counting the huge legal spending that’s happening right now. All the “savings” Musk claims to have done with everything he destroys is not obvious.
No one will receive threshold checks and government services are cut. It sounds like the best of both worlds. No wonder Musk is so unpopular, even without starting a new job in the government through a tribute to the Nazi style. He is not exactly a charm.
