13-year-old girl arrested after shooting 16-year-old boy, police say

A 13-year-old girl was taken into custody over the weekend after police said she fatally shot a 16-year-old boy in Pomona.

On Sunday at about 5:22 p.m., officers with the Pomona Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 1300 block of East Pasadena Avenue and found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound, police said. The Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The girl, from Long Beach, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, the Long Beach Post reported. Officials said she was taken to a juvenile hall.

Officials said the motive is under investigation. The police department did not immediately respond to a request for more information about how they identified the girl as a suspect or whether they believe the shooting was intentional. Neither the victim nor the suspect have been identified.
