On July 4, 2025, the Guadalupe River in Texas soared more than 26 feet in an hour. The resulting mountain flood destroyed the Texas Mountain countryside, claiming more than 80 lives at the time of writing, including 28 children, many of whom attended Mystic Camp Mystic, a summer camp for girls on Riverbank.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott warned that the number of missing persons could increase as thousands of people in the area celebrated the Independence Day of the floods. President Donald Trump has issued a major disaster declaration for Kerr County, Texas, and officials continue to urge people to stay away from the area to allow professional rescue teams to work safely. It is understandable to want to help in this type of disaster and heartbreak, but there are some ways in which the area specifically seeks help.
3 Ways to Help the Texas Mountain Country
It seems that the main way we can assist now is by using money funds or directly donating flood mitigation items. Donations directly to the relief funds listed below contribute to other national fundraising activities that are helping or donating required items to the region.
1. Donate directly to regional relief funds.
- Texas has been established Kerr County Flood Relief Fund Assist people affected by floods. According to its website, the Community Foundation in Texas Hill Country is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that will allocate funds to review organizations involved in rescue, relief and recovery efforts as well as flood assistance.
- Community Foundation of Mount Texas National A flood relief fund was also established. The foundation will direct funds to Hunter, Ingram, Kerrville, Center Point and Comfort Review organizations that are carrying out rescue, relief, rehabilitation and flood assistance efforts.
2. Donate to state relief funds.
- Texsar, A nonprofit specializing in emergency response aims to raise $100,000 to support its search efforts. They deployed Swift-Water rescue teams, ships, drones and search dogs to assist in finding missing persons. Donations can be made online.
- Red Cross Shelter has been opened in affected areas and donations are accepted on their website.
- Crowdfunding website GoFundMe There is a special page for 22 verified fundraising accounts to raise funds for relief.
- World Central Kitchen, Founded by chef José Andrés, it was mobilized to Texas on July 4 to assist with flood mitigation efforts. According to an update shared on social media, the group has been serving meals to evacuees including La Junta Camp, including those from La Junta Camp. Donations can be made directly through the World Central Kitchen website to support their work.
- As of July 5, Austin pets are still alive! More than 50 animals rescued from flood-affected areas of Kerr and Williamson County. They also requested donations to help support grieving families, including help with pet recovery and cremation services.
3. Donate the required items to the Texas Mountain Country.
Relief Organizations have identified some projects as a priority.
- South Oak Church in Kerrville Lead relief efforts by collecting basic supplies for people affected by floods. Items can be dropped on the 122 Valley View in Kerrville. They especially require personal hygiene products, infant and child health products, clothing, food and materials that provide comfort and emotional support. For those outside the region, the church has also created an online donation option, selecting the “River Flood Relief Fund” only on its donation page to contribute directly to flood recovery efforts.
- The Salvation Army at the Crocker Center in Kerrville Non-rotten food, diapers and cleaning supplies are being collected, including bleach, garbage bags, brooms and shovels. Staff from the Office of Social Services are accepting donations at 855 Hays Street, Kerrville.
- Treaty oak distillation in drip spring Donations are being accepted. The address is 16604 Fitzhugh Road in Dripping Springs. They need cleaning and recovery supplies, food and water, emergency supplies, personal hygiene products, tools and more.
- Austin’s Joker King Brewery Items are being collected for those in need. You can drop the material at 13187 Fitzhugh Road – check out its latest Instagram guide. Volunteers will make all donations to the Cross Kingdom Church. The most needed items include bottled water, non-rotten food, new socks and lingerie, children’s clothing, diapers and baby wipes, flashlights and batteries, toiletries, cleaning supplies and pet food.
Respond to what you really need.
It is totally natural to want to help in person, especially when disaster feels so close (Texas is my new home). Currently, the best way to support rural flood survivors in Texas Mountain is to send much-needed supplies and funds. The rescue team is still operating under dangerous conditions. The presence of a well-intentioned volunteer on the scene can inadvertently increase the risk of participating in everyone. At present, what the community needs most are donations and supplies, which will help families move forward.
