Nintendo Switch 2 game key card will not be locked by account

Nintendo sheds light on important details about the Nintendo Switch 2. The company is introducing the game key card – a physical card that does not contain game data, but triggers the digital download into the console.
How much will the Nintendo Switch 2 game cost? This is what we have learned so far.
Nintendo said the cards won’t lock into user accounts.
In a conversation with GamesPot, Nintendo executive execution Tetsuya Sasaki clarified that the game key card “will start on the console or system where it is plugged into, so it has no binding to the account or anything.”

This means that if you sell or trade a card, then the next person can still use it – as long as they have the Switch 2. But there are still warnings. Nintendo’s own support page states that the card must be kept plugged in to play the game, effectively turning it into a physical DRM key. Think of it as PlayStation Plus: You can install the game, but access depends on the conditions – in this case the card will appear physically.

While the lack of account lockdown is a win for second-hand buyers, it also reminds you that even physics games are becoming increasingly digital and one-off.
