Now, millions of gallons of sewage flow into the Tijuana River – but why?
San Diego (FOX 5/kusi) – Another 5 million gallons of sewage flow into the Tijuana River and the border every day, which Mexico does on purpose. The wastewater dumping is expected to last for several days.
The International Borders and Water Commission issued a statement on the matter, noting: “Mexico told us that they started draining about 5 million gallons of wastewater into the Tijuana River every day because they repaired a critical junction box, which is part of the International Collectors Project.”

The statement continued that Mexico allegedly spent several days looking at other alternatives, but exhausted all options. An image is provided showing what Mexico is doing, as shown below.

Officials said they are trying to repair infrastructure associated with the massive international pipeline that takes raw sewage from Tijuana to the treatment plant. Again, for immediate repairs, they said it required them to transfer the sewage flow.
Those officials claim that most of the wastewater will go to the Mexican coast, but about 5 million gallons will enter the Tijuana River every day. Work leading to this new sewage flow is expected to last five days as projects to restore the international collector pipeline are still underway.
