The coolest cars at the 2025 New York International Auto Show
This year marks the 125th anniversary of the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), and despite fears of tariffs, there are still many manufacturers here showing new models including a handful of debuts in the U.S. and around the world. So, without further ado, these are some of the coolest cars on display at Nyias in 2025.
2026 Subaru Off-Road Rider
The first thing on the case file is Subaru, here today, I checked its second EV: TrailSeeker early on. Now, I admit that the follow-up to Solterra may not be the most exciting announcement, as the model will once again be based on the E-TNGA platform, which is shared with Toyota’s BZ4X. That said, while the TrailSeeker doesn’t have the most impressive range (about 260 miles), its updated styling, larger body and improved off-road features are better suited for the outdoor lifestyle.
2026 Kia EV4
Kia has been in the electric car side due to existing cars such as the EV6 and EV9. At NYIAS in 2025, the company hopes to keep that momentum with its U.S. debut with the EV4, which covers many title features in previously battery-powered products, but expects to start at a higher price ranging from $35,000 to $40,000. It also features Kia’s improved I-PEDAL 3.0 regenerative braking technology, now even the opposite.
Kia EV9 Nightfall Edition
Speaking of the EV9, while there aren’t a lot of updates in 2025, Kia does launch a new Nightfall Edition for its flagship electric SUV. It features a blackened accent throughout the vehicle, including dark wheels, trim and badges. The color scheme even continues in the car with an all-black interior. And, when you think this is still one of the most affordable three-row electric cars, I think it’s a great way to enhance the appearance of the EV9.
Genesis X Gran Equator Concept
The Genesis X Gran Equator concept is known as the luxury continental man and can easily be one of the most eye-catching cars at the 2025 New York Auto Show. It has a very long hood and LED strips that wrap its entire side around the side of the vehicle and match it on the back. Inside, while it has a beautifully stitched interior, there are dedicated holders for renewable water outlets, suggesting its role as a potential camper. While Genesis hasn’t said what powertrain it would have if the X Gran equator reached official production, the lack of a distinct grille means the hope it will be an electric car.
Clear gravity
While gravity was officially announced late last year, it wasn’t until now that the company’s friends and family were able to buy it for a large extent, making it a relatively rare location for trade shows and on the road. But at Nyias, it is on display in all three rows of electrical. Not only is the fastest electric vehicle outside China, Gravity is capable of absorbing up to 400 kW of gravity, but it also has a maximum range of up to 450 miles. Plus, thanks to its ability to add 200 miles in less than 11 minutes, it could almost urge the belief that electric cars are not conducive to longer road trips. While this is a niche feature, Lucid even created a special cushion that instantly converts it into a comfortable little love seat. This is the movie theater that makes me hope it is not difficult to find today.
Modern ioniq 5 n ta specifications
The TA in the name of the modern IONIQ 5 N TA specification stands for time attack. Last year, when it set a power-modified SUV/cross-over class at Pike’s Peak, it did it on time with 9 minutes and 32 seconds. But what is most impressive about the car is that despite the obvious changes in its body (just look at the size of the rear wing), Hyundai says TA is also aiming to showcase the strength of the power electrical system of the Regualar Ioniq 5 N. So instead of swapping some single-use motors, the car has the same basic setup as the standard model (601 hp), which outputs only 37 horsepower.
Maserati GT2 Stradale
Even if we prefer electric cars at Engadget, we would be shocked, let alone at least one gasoline-powered car at the New York Auto Show. The Maserati GT2 Stradale announced in February that it is basically a road-legal version of the GT2 racing car, which itself is based on the truly outrageous MC20 supercar. As you’d expect, although it only has rear-wheel drive, it has some impressive specs with 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds. It also has a carbon single-type design like track-focused siblings, which you can order with semi-flexible racing tires if you prefer. So if you’ve ever dreamed of driving a racing car on the street, that might be your journey. That said, Maserati has not announced official pricing for the GT2 Stradale. But, as the saying goes, you may not be able to afford it if you have to ask.
1924 Chrysler 6 prototype
Finally, adding this list is the Chrysler 6 prototype, which debuted at the 1924 New York Auto Show. Of course, this is old, but it was the most advanced to have four-wheel hydraulic brakes in the industry as well as six-cylinder engines, producing up to 68 horsepower. When it finally hit the market later that year, the Chrysler 6 was priced at $1,565. Considering that this translates to a list price of around $29,000 after inflation, which is actually not bad.
