Shanghai Electric, Masdar and Mavarid Group join forces to clean energy

Shanghai Electric has established a formal agreement with Abu Dhabi Future Energy (Masdar) and Oman’s Maward Group, which has formal agreements in major renewable energy projects in two Middle Eastern countries.

These partnerships will focus on advancing clean energy through technology deployment, localized manufacturing and multisectoral collaboration.

The agreement with Masdar involves the development of a 2GW solar project in Saudi Arabia.

In Oman, the agreement with Mawardid focuses on wind energy cooperation.

To date, the Saudi solar project, called Sadawi, marks Shanghai Electric’s most extensive solar EPC venture capital investment. It will be developed in partnership with Masdar.

The 40-kilometer plant will produce more than 6 billion kWh each year. It is expected to provide electricity to 700,000 households and reduce emissions by 3 million tons.

The project uses modern photovoltaic systems to harness Saudi Arabia’s solar potential. It forms an important part of the country’s national renewable strategy.

The Saudi initiative helps efforts to reduce the use of fossil fuels. It also supports Shanghai Electric’s expansion into the regional solar energy market.

In Oman, the partnership includes plans for wind turbine supply, technology exchanges, and local production facilities. The agreement promotes regional manufacturing and knowledge sharing.

The initiative aims to leverage Oman’s wind resources and stimulate domestic industries. It also aims to drive long-term development through energy diversification.

This wind energy project supports Oman’s broader goal of moving from traditional fuels to cleaner alternatives. It also enhances technical cooperation between China and Arab countries.

Wu Lei, chairman of Shanghai Electric Power Group, said: “This is a new starting point for comprehensive cooperation between Shanghai Electric and Masdar and an important milestone for Shanghai Electric to further establish itself in the new energy market in the Middle East.

“I hope both sides can jointly create a benchmark demonstration project and contribute more to the global energy transition.”

Both agreements reflect the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and Oman Vision 2040 and prioritize sustainable energy, local participation and cross-sectoral collaboration.

“Masdar attaches great importance to its partnership with Shanghai Electric and looks forward to further deepening its cooperation with them in wind, photovoltaics, energy storage, energy storage and other fields to jointly promote the transformation of the global energy structure.”
