Fireworks and smoke are thousands of Serbian students who ride bicycles to France and seek EU support for protests
Novi Sad of Serbia (AP) – This month, thousands of Serbian University students cycling more than 1,300 kilometers (780 miles) this month attracted the EU to attract the EU’s attention to the struggle against corruption in the Balkan countries.
Fireworks, drums and whistles echoed in the northern city of Novi, as about 80 students received medals symbolically and were delighted by their efforts in early April.
A 13-day bicycle tour from Novi Sad to Strasbourg, France, was designed to provide EU with months of student-led protests seeking protests from 16 victims of a deadly train station shed in the city in November.
One of the students told the cheering crowd in Novi Sad.
The national anti-plant movement led by students has upset the growing number of authoritarian presidents Aleksandar Vucic. Serbian protesting students felt they had not received enough support from the EU when they felt they had great support at home and in the Balkans.
Serbia has formally sought membership in the G27 but has been backing against democracy, freedom and the rule of law. The EU’s response to the majority of peaceful student-led protests was frigid, and officials did not publicly criticize Vucic.
In Strasbourga student delegation met with officials from the European Parliament and the European Council. Along the way, Serbian students passed through Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and Germany before arriving in France.
Many in Serbia blame rampant corruption for the collapse of the tree canopy at Novi Sad Train’s railway station. Protesters have been demanding punishment for those responsible for the November 1 tragedy and end government pressure and violence against protesters.
