People who go to religious activities are linked to violence in West Bengal

Having broken out in West Bengal, India, has changed the way Muslim-owned property is managed after the country passes a bill, but the footage of men in Islamic clothing has nothing to do with the conflict. In fact, since December 2024, similar videos have posted posts on social media about the annual Muslim congregation to discuss their beliefs, which took place in the Central Central Region.

On April 13, 2025, X shared a video of several trucks wearing Islamic costumes along the street.

Police told AFP that Indian deployed troops surfaced the day after West Bengal quelled deadly protests. More than 110 people were arrested in connection with the violence (archive link).

According to the ruling Hindu KMT government, the WAQF amendment, which is said to have sparked protests, increases transparency in land management by holding responsible WAQF boards, which controls property donated by Muslims charitable donations.

But the opposition called the bill a “attack” against the polarization of Indian Muslim minorities.

The video was also released on a similar proposition Facebook and Xseems to show public sentiment on social media, one of the users commented: “Wake up, the Hindus is awake now.”

Another wrote: “The situation in Bangladesh is terrible.”

However, the video footage predated the conflict in West Bengal – it was shot in central Madhya Pradesh.

Google reverse image search resulted in a similar clip posted on Instagram on December 5, 2025 with sticker text reading “Bhopal” and “2024” (archive link). Bhopal is the capital of Madhya Pradesh.

A further search was conducted on profile “abid.sheik.315” which is covered with text “ijtima”, a similar post, which is Bhopal’s annual Muslim religious event.

According to local media reports, the World Islamic Congregation was held from November 29 to December 2, 2024, and saw 100 to 12 million Muslims participating in prayer and discussion of faith (archive link).

The Times of India reported that it ended with a prayer of “global peace and well-being” (link to archive).

AFP uses a signature board with the name “Sachin Tent Supplier” to record the video to the Bhopal Market (archive link).

The Instagram user who posted the truck video also reposted videos from the fact-checking organization in India, debunking false posts (archive links).
