Albatross helps Yan Liu stick to Chevron Champion Lead

Woodland, Texas – Liu Liu’s albatross can offset three top nine bogeys and rebound from the late bogey to a uniform 72-72-shot lead and a one-step lead of four players in the Chevron Championship, the first big women’s game of the year.
The highest ranked Nelly Korda rally later in the afternoon and held the championship after opening 68 points in 77 games.
She used another putter Friday.
“I put it for an hour and a half after yesterday’s round, so just something different is needed,” Korda said. “Sometimes, that’s what you need.”
The fog delayed the start of the game, and nine players were unable to complete the game due to the darkness.
Liu, a 27-year-old Chinese player, shared a first-round lead with Haeran Ryu at 65, admits she will feel pressured on Saturday.
“I think, of course, I’ll feel a little bit because it’s important,” Liu said. “I know the course will get more difficult, so I think I’m just patient and calm because I’m very excited.”
Strokes from Hyo Joo Kim (71) with Lindy Duncan (66), Sarah Schmelzel (68) and Mao Saigo (68). King won the Ford Championship in Arizona a month ago, her seventh LPGA Tour title, while the other four players at the top of the rankings did not win.
Liu hit her second 175 yards in 505 yards in the 505 yards, hitting the No. 7 iron with the eighth pole.
“I saw how the ball went in, so it was really cool,” Liu said. “But I don’t think they don’t have a video of that hole. There’s almost no sadness.”
Liu then boges No. 9 and opened nine points on seven par. She was in the third club of the 17th face, and was tied for the sixth. Her T-shirt shot jumped into the rough spot of fluffy Bermuda and she reached the edge for the second time, missing a 15-foot par attempt.
She retrieved the stroke with a 15-foot birdie putt on 5-18, ending about an hour before sunset.
Liu said: “The last hole was my first birdie today.” “I’m so glad I did.
Ryu fell twice in a group with Angel Yin (70), Manon de Roey (71) and Hye-Jin Choi (71). Weiwei Zhang had three holes left when the game was suspended.
Lexi Thompson started the game at the age of 67 in 73 games. The 30-year-old Florida player retired from full-time games at the end of last season.
“I’m still practicing and training,” Thompson said. “I love exercising. I’m still trying to do better because every time I play, I still want to win. It’s not that I’m just showing my face here. I’m still very competitive, but I want to enjoy the few times I’ll play.”
She won the 2014 event — and then the Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage, California.
