Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was named Player of the Year in the 2024-25 season.
According to the NBA, the Player of the Year award was given to a player whose efforts were not represented in the statistics table but often had a positive impact on the game’s outcomes, a microcosm of Green’s entire career with the Warriors.
Green is the ninth winner of the award, joining Alex Caruso, Marcus Smart, Thaddeus Young, Montrezl Harrell, Amir Johnson and Patrick Beverley as the only player to win the award since its inception in 2016-17.
According to the NBA, deflection, resuming loose balls, drawing charges, setting screens, boxing and opposing shots are all quantified under “Hustle Stats” that have been tracked and compared to the winners of the award.
Green has won his victory this season by ranking the top 40 in all hustle and bustle statistics categories. Green ranked sixth in the allegations filed, second in the controversial three-point shooting percentage and tenth in the defensive box outs.
It’s no surprise to Green, who has always been known as the emotional leader and key defender of the Warriors dynasty. Green’s defensive versatility allowed him to defend all five positions and provided a gritty motor that didn’t stop until the final buzzer made a sound.
In his 13th season at Golden State, Green continues to remain a factor in the roster, starting 66 games, averaging 29.2 minutes per game. He averaged 9 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game, 5.6 assists per game, 1.5 steals per game and blocks per game.
Currently, the voiceover fights upstart Houston Rockets in a fiercely contested first-round series. Game 1 and Game 2 were both low-scoring Slugfest games, and Green has made his presence known to lead the voiceover in terms of total rebounds, and so far, there have been an average of 3 steals and one block throughout the two games.
To enable voiceovers to get rid of the frustration of the first round, Green will have to continue the unrestrained game to extend the property and lock in Rocket Star Center Alperen Sengun.
