European Commission that contacts Spain after power outage

The European Commission said on Monday it is in contact with Spanish and Portuguese authorities after a massive power outage caused by the entire Iberian Peninsula.

A spokeswoman said in Brussels: “The committee is in contact with the Spanish and Portuguese national authorities … to understand the root causes and impact of the situation.”

“There are protocols that restore the functionality of the system,” she added.

According to Spanish railway company Renfe, the power grid in Spain and Portugal fell around 12:30 p.m. Monday, causing the train to stop.

Authorities are competing to restore power to affected areas.
