Power outages in Spain and Portugal knock down ATMs, subways and traffic signals
Barcelona, Spain (AP) – The main power outages in Spain and Portugal knocked down subway networks, traffic signals and ATMs.
Spanish electricity distributor Red Eléctrica said it could take 6-10 hours to restore power to much of the country. The company refused to speculate on the cause of the power outage on Monday.
The National Cybersecurity Centre in Portugal said there is no sign of a cyberattack. The power outages span Spain and Portugal, including its capital.
Later on Monday, Spain’s power network operator said it is reclaiming electricity in the northern and southern peninsula, which will help to gradually restore power supply across the country.
