Watch live stream when NASA astronauts conduct a rare all-around female voyage outside the International Space Station

Two astronauts are preparing for some orbital maintenance work outside the International Space Station (ISS) in the rare all-around navigation.

NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers will leave the space station for six hours and 35 minutes after starting their space walk at 8 a.m. ET on Thursday. NASA will broadcast Space Walk on NASA+ and the agency’s YouTube channel. You can also listen through the live feed below.

During the spacewalk, astronauts will relocate the space station communication antenna and install the mounting bracket before installing an additional ISS to launch a solar array (also known as IROSA). The array will be installed during another upcoming spacewalk. According to NASA, IROSA aims to increase the power generation capacity of ISS by 30%, which will increase the total power of the station from 160 kW to up to 215 kW. The two will also upgrade the station’s power system while being bound to the International Space Station.

So far, astronauts have conducted five all-woman voyages outside the International Space Station. The first time was about six years ago that happened after several delays due to poor performance of the appropriate space suit. Finally, on October 18, 2019, NASA astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir set foot on the International Space Station (ISS) for a historic space walk that solidified the role of women in space flight. Earlier this year, NASA astronaut Suni Williams broke the woman’s record after completing a 5.5-hour spacewalk outside the ISS, bringing her total spacewalk time to 62 hours and six minutes.

Thursday’s spacewalk will be astronaut Ayers’ first extra-game event outside the International Space Station (ISS) and McClain’s third spacewalk.
