Will tiktok prohibit the use of Capcut? These alternatives may be the answer
Facing a potential U.S. ban, Tiktok received another 75-day extension to find U.S. buyers approved by government officials. This can keep the app alive, but it also creates another looming deadline for Tiktok’s 170 million U.S. users. For creators, delays mean months of uncertainty surrounding one of the most popular social media apps and its sister video editing app Capcut.
With the rise of video-first social media content, video editing applications such as Capcut have become very popular. According to time reports, Capcut has 200 million active users as of 2023 and is the favorite among creators. It’s versatile, has free and paid plans, and is compatible with social media giant Tiktok. However, it can be banned from using Bondendance-owned editing apps, together with its sister app Tiktok.

That’s why now is a good time for video editors and creators to explore other editing programs. Whether you are looking for a beginner-friendly program or want to improve your skills, there is a great option. These third-party editing apps are especially useful if you plan to share videos on multiple platforms – for example, editing in Tiktok means you can’t save videos without a watermark.
Based on your budget, skill level and operating system, we’ve compiled some of the best options below. If Capcut is prohibited, this is some alternative video editing program.
Instagram has just launched a free video editing app. It’s called editor, and frankly, it’s covered with imitation. The editor was supposed to be released on March 13, but it has been postponed to April 30. The app is now available on iPhone and Android.
Editing includes an in-app camera, as well as a complete set of creative tools including subtitles. But for creators who are already good at the basics of Capcut, Final Cut Pro offers more advanced features that can help you improve your skills and content.
The cheapest way to use Final Cut Pro is to use $5 per month (or $49 per year) on your iPad, where you can deactivate and reactivate your subscription as needed. If you prefer to edit on your Mac, you will have to pay a one-time payment of $300, but it does include all future software updates.
If you’ve ever seen Adobe Premiere Pro and are immediately overwhelmed by the number of panels and Windows, Premiere Rush may be a great choice for you. It’s a premiere that brings the added benefit of freedom. You can use it on your phone via a mobile app or a desktop app.
Premiere Rush aims to create social videos, including in-app cameras for you to shoot. Its editing capabilities are basic, but inclusive, so it may be everything you need. You can also easily record dubbing and import audio. Overall, this is a reliable option for people looking for video editing capabilities without spending any money.
CNET spoke with Veed.io’s CEO and co-founder Sabba Keynejad last summer, who described the platform as “The Up-commer, the guy is just someone trying to get started.” Beginner-friendly features of AI startups include subtitle generation, translation capabilities, AI avatar and voice creation, and typical video editing tools.
Veed.io does offer a free plan, but the strict restrictions on many features may allow you to upgrade to a paid plan ($12 to $29 per month, depending on the plan), especially if you edit a lot of content. Free videos will also be automatically watermarked, so you will need to upgrade to delete them.
Splicing is what I’m talking about for beginners. It will guide you through how to use the tool and will not overload your features. Using clipping, you can edit clips manually, or you can choose to have the application do the work for you and create an AI assembly. I created several AI compilations that basically just combine all my clips into a timeline. I ended up finding myself wanting to go back to the manual editing tool for more hands-on control, but I thank the editing for providing automatic selection for people who want to reduce their editing efforts.
The app is perfect for people who just need to use basic tools to trim and combine clips and the large stock music library you can access. If you want more advanced editing features, I recommend Premiere Rush or Final Cut Pro. You will get a 7-day free trial before you have to upgrade to the Pro version for $10 per week or $70 per year.
