Oriole recalls Coby Mayo -MLB Trade Rumors

3:27 pm: The Oriole has officially announced Mayo’s promotion. As Kubatko points out, Urias is actually placed on the list of 10-day injuries, and the Orioles call it a “mild” ham hamstring strain. Manager Brandon Hyde told reporters (including Kubatko) that the club expects Urias’s Ilia trip to be short and he will then return to progress after a few days off.
1:00 pm: Orioles bring potential customers in the field Coby Mayo Back to major. Roch Kubatko of Masnsports.com reported that Mayo is joining the team. Matt Weyrich of the Baltimore Suns confirmed Mayo will indeed be recalled to an active squad.
Mayo, 23, is one of the best prospects in baseball, but he has been trying to find time in crowded Baltimore infield games. He made his debut in Major League Baseball’s debut last year, but was selected as a minor multiple times, with only 46 plates in 17 games.
He entered the camp this year and won the opening day job, but was chosen by minors in mid-March. Mayonnaise is actually just a viable option. Ryan Mountcastle and Ryan O’Hearn Always sharing first base and designated hitters.
Shortstop Gunnar Henderson The season started at Illinois State University, but the club decided to rotate Jordan Westburg,,,,, Jackson Holliday,,,,, Jorge Mateo and Ramón Urías Covering three infield spots on the left side of first base. Henderson left Illinois State after missing only seven games. This led Westborough to share third place with Urias, while Holliday and Mateo shared second place.
Although Mayo expressed frustration at being selected, he continued to pound on minors. He has had six home runs and is walking at 12.6%. He has the .252/.346/.523 line and this year there are 130 WRC+. He dates back to early 2023, with 1,147 minor league board appearances to the .287/.390/.570 line and 149 WRC+.
Although he has been doing his best to promote the promotion, O seems content to wait. Yesterday, General Manager Mike Elias talked about this situation, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. “He will be a big part of this team,” Erias said, although he added that Mayo needs the “right opportunity” or the “right path”.
It seems that injury has finally created this path. Westburg landed on the 10-day injury list earlier this week due to left hamstring strain. Urías Emmanuel Rivera Play third base. Urías reportedly could be on the list of injuries. Mayo is supposedly taking over as a regular third baseman with Rivera on the bench.
Maybe that means it will only be a brief promotion. Last year, Mayo hit only .098/.196/.098 in his debut. If he struggles again this time, he may eventually choose to go back to Norfolk when Westburg and Uris become healthy, although he may also hit enough to stick with it. Mountcastle had a bad year, so maybe there was a scene where his game time was even Westburg and Urías on the roster.
Time will tell how this works, which will affect Mayo’s future contract status. He entered the year with 43 days of major league service, making him 129 less than his year. There are 148 days left in the regular season, which means Mayo can catch up with a year’s game. This will give him hope to qualify for arbitration after 2027 and after 2030. But being selected as a minor later this year could prevent him from crossing the lineup for a year and could push those schedules.
