On Thursday, at the PGA Championship, mud balls (soft route conditions will cause mud to be on the side of the golf ball cake, which may affect its flight when it is flying, which may affect its impact.
Top players like Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler played early Thursday, frustrated by mud ball being described as an unfair breakthrough.
On the 16th hole, Scheffler encountered a wrong approach that led to a double bogey. He explained after the round that a mud ball was the reason, and he thought the course conditions were worth the decision to make a decision on Thursday’s game – a decision that would allow players to lift, clean and place the ball on the fairway without penalty.
“I know golf purists will play it with it,” Scheffler said. “But I don’t think they understand how they’ve been learning all their lives how to play golf and control shooting, hitting and controlling distances, and suddenly, due to the rule’s decisions, were taken away from us by chance. My opinion, maybe the ball today should have been played.”
Schauffele is also a victim of a 16-year-old mud ball bad breakthrough.

“Unfortunately, it played well and paid back that way. It was a little silly,” he said. “I’m not the only guy. I’m just in front of the camera. I don’t want to go to the locker room because I’m sure a lot of people aren’t very happy with the conditions there. I think the grass seems to be so good, there’s no real advantage to clear the ball on the court. This goalie is totally tilted. Once you hit 50/50, you can hit 50/50.”
Perhaps anticipating potential criticism, the US PGA issued a statement Wednesday night defending the decision to hit the ball.
“We are not going to play the lie of preference,” the statement said. “The competition surface is excellent and it’s drying every hour. We are mowing the grass tonight. We are looking forward to the exciting opening of the 107th PGA Championship.”
However, with the opening day, it was clear that mud balls became increasingly a problem. Ultimately, ESPN broadcasters Curtis Strange and Scott Van Pelt discussed the situation.
“Padraig Harrington mentioned that until today, it was the wettest golf course he has ever seen,” Van Pelt said. “This is a guy in his 50s and certainly played in Europe, so he saw the wet golf course.”
Van Pelt compared the conditions of Quail Hollow to a spilled but not burned sponge.
“Yes That Wet, yes, the sun is out, yes, this golf course does drain, yes, we know purists, Curtis, that’s that we don’t want to hit the golf ball and play like lying, but how do you react to your own thoughts, if you really shouldn’t be punished, if you hit a square in this game and have a big mud mud, that’s mud mud? ”
“Great argument, isn’t it?” The strange response.
“I think so,” Van Pelt said. “I think it’s very convincing.”

“From the player’s perspective, when you lose control of the aerial golf ball, it completely intensifies,” Strange said. “From the PGA’s perspective, I think from the PGA in the United States, I think they think there is enough grass on these fairways, thick enough to be supervised by rye that they don’t pick up mud.
“Obviously, they were wrong, I think they made a mistake. I think one day I can put it in your hands, put it on a cluster of grass and clean the balls.”
“This is a decision today, and if they think it’s necessary, it’s a conversation and certainly can move forward.”
“It’s a conversation, but it’s also a conversation because it might make someone pay,” the weird answer.
The PGA of the United States has not made any other statements under course conditions and the ball will be played for the rest of the round – Schauffele is wary.
“The mud balls will get worse,” he said. “As the drama changes, they get worse. They will go into a perfect cake area, get to the mud below, and pick up the mud on the way. I mean, you just keep it – I don’t know, I don’t know, maybe a little lower on Tee, but unfortunately, unfortunately, you won’t carry it or roll around with you if you hit the Tee problem on Tee.
“This is a bit nonsense.”
