Russian diver found dead, one in the jaw of a shark, Philippines near shark

Amid the strong tide, a Russian diver was found dead, one in the jaw of a shark separated them from the team at a popular Philippine dive site, a Coast Guard official said Friday.

Four Russians – Eduart Perigudin, 57, his two sons Timofy and Ilya, 18 and 29, another man dived near the Batangas resort on Luzon’s main island, Luzon, when they and their diving master were told AFP by Airland Lapitan, an underwater current Coast Guard chief forward.

According to a Coast Guard statement, Ilya Perigudin missed his arms when he was evacuated from multiple sharks from the waters.

“His body was found floating near the coastline… Both arms were missing due to the apparent shark attack. During the recovery period, multiple sharks were observed nearby.”

Lapitan earlier told AFP that the 29-year-old was “pulled by a shark” when rescuers located him later in the afternoon.

But it is not clear whether he was killed by a shark or has died, Lapitan said, adding that the bodies had been handed over to family members who had not had an autopsy.

The second victim, known by the TASS news agency in Moscow, citing the identity of the Russian embassy, ​​was found about an hour ago and died after being admitted to a local hospital.

Rapitan said his youngest son Timofee and their diving master were able to surface and get it back onto the boat.

The Russian Embassy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Following the incident, the Philippine Coast Guard said in a statement that divers and diver operators should “be vigilant and adhere to strict safety protocols, especially in areas with strong currents and active marine life.”
