South Korean police summon Japanese woman accused of kissing BTS members without his consent
Seoul, South Korea – South Korean police summoned a Japanese woman to inquire about allegations that she kissed Jin, a member of K-Pop Boy Band BTS, at an event last year without his permission.
A police officer who oversees the case at the Songpa Police Department in Seoul, South Korea, told NBC News by phone on Friday that the woman was asked to ask about sexual harassment allegations, “Now we have designated the suspect.”
The official said police launched an investigation after receiving the online complaint. He declined to name the woman and cited privacy laws, saying he could not provide more details as the investigation proceeded.
The incident happened last June when Jin, 32, celebrated the end of his forced 18-month military service and the band’s 11th anniversary, providing fans with free hugs at a Seoul event, reportedly with about 1,000 people attending.
Yonhap News Agency reported that during the event, a woman in her 50s suddenly kissed Jin on the cheek. BTS stars seem uncomfortable in the video recordings that are widely shared online.
“My lips touched his neck. Yonhap said his skin was so soft.
Yonhap reported that the woman was confirmed with the assistance of Japanese police and so far she refused to show up for inquiries.
The super group BTS, which was composed of seven members, made its debut in 2013 and has been soaring to global stars since then. Its fans are known as the “BTS Army”.
As the oldest member of BTS, Kim was the first to withdraw from military duties, whose members were allowed to delay enlistment until age 30. Another member, J-Hope, completed his service in October, while the remaining five members – V, RM, Jimin, Jungkook and Suga and Suga – are still in service.
The date of the band’s highly anticipated party is unclear.
Stella Kim reported on Seoul, while Julia Zhong reported on Hong Kong.
