Education Department resumes some research and data activities

The Ministry of Education Press said it has no comments other than what is disclosed in the legal summary.
Educational researchers who do not meet the Trump administration to restore all its previous research and statistical activities are not satisfied.
Elizabeth Tipton, president of the Society for Effectiveness Research (SREE), said the limited recovery is “dismaying”. “They are trying to make the IES as small as possible,” she said.
Sree and the American Association for Education Research (AERA) sued McMahon and the Department of Education in the Maryland case. The lawsuit calls for temporary resumption of all contracts and retraining for IES employees, while the court ruled whether the Trump administration violated Congressional regulations and exceeded the broader constitutional issues of its administration.
The court did not order these 20 types to be restored, and in some cases the education department voluntarily restarted a small number of research activities, making it impossible to produce anything meaningful for the public. For example, the department said it is resuming the contract to operate What Wording Clearinghouse, which informs schools of evidence-based teaching practices. But, Legal Introductionthe department revealed that it does not intend to restore any contracts to generate new content for the website.
exist Shortthe government acknowledged that the Congressional statue mentioned a series of research and data collection activities. But lawyers believe that the word often uses in legislative language may not be necessary, or that education plans should be evaluated “by time and resources allow”.
“Read together, the department has extensive discretion in whether to conduct which assessments,” the administrative attorney wrote.
The Trump administration believes that as long as there is at least one contract, it technically performs its congressional mission. For example, Congress requires the education sector to participate in international assessments. That’s why it is restarting its contracts to manage the International Student Assessment Program (PISA), but is not participating in trends in other international assessments that the country participates in, such as the International Mathematics and Scientific Research (TIMSS).
The government believes that researchers have not proposed a compelling case where they will suffer irreparable damage without restarting many contracts. “There is no access to data that has not been created yet, and there is no harm,” the attorney wrote.
One of the termination contracts should help state educational institutions create vertical data systems to track students from Pre-K to the workforce. The department’s summary says that professional associations of states, not researchers, should sue for resuming these contracts.
In six cases, the government said it was evaluating whether to restart the research. For example, the legal summary says that the department is considering resuming research on comprehensive literacy programs for efforts to readers as Congress needs to evaluate literacy programs. But lawyers say there is no urgent restart because there is no deadline for legislative language assessments.
In four other cases, the Trump administration said that despite Congress’ requests, restarting the research is not feasible. For example, Congress requires the education department to identify and evaluate promising adult education strategies. But after ending the February study, the Ministry of Education admitted that it is too difficult to restart it now. The department also said it was not easy to restart two math course studies in underperforming schools. One study requires the implementation of a math program in the first year and the study in the second year, which makes restarting particularly difficult. The department’s fourth study said the inability to restart will assess the effectiveness of additional services to help youth with disabilities transition from high school to college or work.
