Rory McIlroy is first eligible for the Ryder Cup European team

Rory McIlroy became a European qualifying player announced on Monday to qualify for the 2025 Ryder Cup, with the Masters champion going to compete in the Biennale for the eighth straight time.

McIlroy blocked his position through the European points list, a qualifying pathway based on the DP World Tour and co-approved events as the Northern Irish have enjoyed four victories since last August.

The 35-year-old finished a long-term professional grand slam with the Augusta National in April, winning the Dubai DP World Tour Championship in November, Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Player Championship.

The top 20 score at the U.S. Open over the weekend was enough to mathematically guarantee his position on the team.

The 2025 Ryder Cup will be held on September 26-28 at Bethpage Black in New York, with European captain Luke Donald calling his 12-man squad later this year with six automatic qualifiers and six captain draft picks.

“It has always been a huge honor to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup, so it means a lot of things to be qualified for the eighth consecutive time and to be a part of Luke again,” McIlroy said.

“Winning the Ryder Cup and leaving home is one of the biggest challenges for golf. We know it will be tough in New York, but we are all looking forward to the challenge in September and have the opportunity to do something special.”

Since its debut in 2010, McIlroy has been the Ryder Cup Mainstay, helping Europe win five of its seven games.
