Devers Trade Altout: Breslow, deadline, club

Baseball is still focused on last night’s amazing blockbusters Rafael Devers Go to San Francisco. Once Devers report to the team tomorrow, the Giants will surely have more, but Boston has a lot of notes.
Trade is clearly driven by a deteriorating relationship between Devers and Red Sox. This stems from the defeat of three All-Star Games Alex Bregman. Devers initially said he was reluctant to change positions, and then agreed to be the designated hitter. After Sox lost, he was more determined to refuse to play in first base before the reps Triston Casas Knee injury. He was not satisfied with Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow as the team approached his consideration.
Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe announced last night that the team believed the Devers franchise record $313.5mm was “a responsibility to be the right team” and the infielder was not satisfied. More specifically, Sean McAdam of Masslive Roman Anthony,,,,, Marcelo Mayer and Christian Campbell.
Breslow hints about club culture in his Reporter tonight (a link to YouTube link for 38 minutes). “It’s the willingness to step up and sacrifice in a time of need,” the former Major League Baseball rescuer said of his successful team he was involved in. “I think this is the identity we are looking for, a relentless pursuit of victory.” He declined to directly answer ESPN’s Jeff Passan’s follow-up question about where Devers did not meet these criteria.
CEOs Sam Kennedy and Breslow repeated several times on calls that the team and Devers were unable to “find the same”. Breslow said Devers did not formally ask for a deal, although he added: “Sometimes, during the conversation with the Raffy camp, they showed that it might be the best start for both sides.”
Obviously, this is a consideration for a while. Buster Posey, president of the Giants baseball business, told San Francisco Beat last night that they have been talking to Sox about Devers for weeks (relayed by Alex Pavlovic in the NBC Sports Bay area). While Breslow did not provide any details about the talks, McAdam reported this morning that the Braves, the Blue Jays and Padres also asked about the availability of Devers.
Ultimately, these teams were reluctant to get on the Giants’ offer. San Francisco assumes the remaining eight and a half seasons, and Devers’ contract has 250 mm left. They sent it back to the starter Kyle Harrisontwo prospects (including the first round of last year James Tibbs III),correct Jordan Hicks. Hicks’ inclusion salary offsets as he signed a contract with a 12.5mm annually in 2027. San Francisco signed Hicks, who were looking to reach out as a starter, but he failed to take on a rotation role in his first two seasons. They moved him back to the bullpen and then he landed on the injured list earlier this month with toe inflammation.
Breslow describes Hicks as a “dominate late reliefist”, indicating that they are not going to put him on another spin attempt. Harrison was selected as Triple-A Worcester but had a rotational look later this season. Apparently, the Red Sox received a significant relegation in the short term, although Breslow tried to prove that “there was a chance at the end of the season, and we looked back and we won more games than we were originally.”
While this seems unlikely, Hicks and Harrison are potential short-term contributors. “We need to create a more functional lineup and give some more playing time, be able to spin at the DH position and have the potential to match there,” Breslow said. “It’s a lineup that certainly has some demands – starting to pitch, help from the bullpen – we think we’ve addressed some of the people returning. Also, I do think that it gives us some resources as we move toward the deadline.”
Now, RosterResource calculates Sox’s luxury tax number on the base threshold of 241mm. COT’s baseball contract puts them slightly below the production line, about 238mm. Since CBT was not paid last season (and therefore not subject to repeated payers’ fines), any tax would be minimal. If any free agent who refuses a qualified offer signs whether the salary and compensation for next year is signed, a decision on whether the threshold exceeds the threshold may have an impact on salary and compensation for next year.
Masslive’s Chris Cotillo reported this morning that the Red Sox continues to see themselves as deadline buyers. Breslow did not go in the direction for six weeks before July 31, but he said the deal never means the white flag in 2025 is waving. We were with a team that threw a winning team on the court six months ago, playing in the division and in-depth playoffs. ”
Sox entered the opening game of the series in Seattle tonight with a record of 37-36, with them winning half-time in the wild card game. They have been riding high, winning five straight games and sweeping from the Yankees. While the deal seems to have been together for weeks, it’s arguably the game that Sox has come to behind the best series of the season (and ultimately Devers stands out). The biggest explosion) Of course it was shocking.
Tim Healey of the Boston Globe was one of those who recorded the reaction of Sox players before tonight’s game. “Probably as shocked as everyone else. It’s the best way to describe it and didn’t really see it coming.” Trevor’s Story Tell reporters. “It’s timing at a strange moment. We think we’re doing very well.” Jarren Duran and Garrett Crochet Also admits to being surprised, crochet called it “certainly shocking, after running we just met in the past week.”
Still, the general sentiment is that the team is confident in the players who remain in the roster. Crochet and Walker Buehler Everyone said that the front desk had no explanation that the club was owed. “It seems like a logical thing from an external perspective,” Buller said. “But it’s part of the business. We have no reason to be explained. They made the decision. Our work remains the same.”
