Keegan Bradley Mulls’ idea is to play for the captain of Ryder Cup

Will Keegan Bradley become the captain of Bethpage Black’s American Ryder Cup team in September?
It was the decision he could only make after winning the Travelers title on Sunday.
“It changed the story,” Bradley said Sunday of his Ryder Cup role. “I would never think of playing if I didn’t win the game. It certainly opened the door to the game. I don’t know if I’m going to do that, but of course I have to try very hard to see what’s best for the team.”
Bradley has moved to No. 9 in the Ryder Cup standings and is seventh in the official world golf rankings. His two PGA Tour wins over the past year have surpassed any American except World One Scottie Scheffler.
“It’s really incredible because I’ve spent 15 years here [on the PGA Tour]. Bradley told Golf Central on Sunday’s golf channel. Then, of course, something like this happens.
“We’ll see. It’ll definitely change something. If I don’t win, I’m definitely not going to play. I want to put my team in the best position to win. If we stick with it and my game is like that… If I feel that it will help the team, I’ll play.”
He said if he did play, he would be the captain of the game without one of his vice captains – Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker took over the role.
After the BMW Championship on August 17, the top six players in scoring will automatically become the team. Bradley will also make six captain choices. Scheffler is the two-time Major champion Xander Schauffele and U.S. Open champion JJ Spaun are in the top three at this point, with Russell Henley, Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas winning the top six.
Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Bradley, Harris English, Maverick McNealy and Brian Harman were the next six of Sunday’s matches.
Bradley told the Golf Channel about the surge in his game: “It’s the only thing I’ve ever escaped this Ryder Cup when I’m in the rope.” “So sometimes, when you find peace inside the rope, you’re playing the best golf ball. When I leave the rope, when I go home, I’m the 24/7 Ryder Cup. When I’m able to come here [to the course]especially when I don’t play with Ryder Cup players… and I don’t have to be the captain, it’s a friendly and peaceful one. That’s the only thing I can point out. ”
Bradley suffered a shock when then-Red Cup captain Zach Johnson left the 2023 team to take Thomas as the pick for the captain.
In 2024, Bradley, 39, was selected by the U.S. PGA to lead the U.S. team in the 2025 game held at Bethpage Black in New York – the youngest captain in the United States since Arnold Palmer was a game captain since 1963.
“I’m very nervous [about being captain],” Bradley told the Golf Channel. “There are a few people in my camp who don’t want me to do that because they’re worried I’m going to be bad, and I’m worried. ”
Bradley said the idea of actually playing on Bethpage Black didn’t really think of him earlier this season, but as his game surged, it wasn’t a possibility.
“I never really planned a game. I really wanted to be the captain,” Bradley said. “I’m really strong. I want to serve these people. They want me to do a job. I want to do my best.
“Now, with the amazing vice captain I have and I have a better view of playing in the Presidents Cup game and a lot of people, I would feel more comfortable if I go that route.”
Bradley, who is from New England and played College Golf at St. John’s, played in 2014 at the Ryder Cup in Gleneagles, Scotland. He made his Ryder Cup debut in Medinah in 2012.
Ryder Cup will be held from September 26 to 28 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York
