Gilbert, the beloved dog of a murdered Minnesota congressman, was with her and her spouse while lying in the state

Gilbert was with his family when a gunman murdered two of his families, a prominent Minnesota lawmaker and her husband, while the Golden Hound was next to them as they were held Friday at the State Capitol.

He was all, but certainly the first dogs to receive this honor, seriously injured in the attack. There is no other non-human record in the state, the highest Democrat and former Speaker Melissa Hortman is the first woman. According to the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library, the state has previously awarded 19 men, including the vice president, U.S. Secretary of State, U.S. Senator, governor and civil war veteran.

Gilbert received a flood tribute from Hortman and her husband Mark, who was shot in the early hours of June 14 by a man pretending to be a policeman since the spread of news online. The defendant Vance Boelter is also accused of shooting a prominent Democratic senator and his wife, and authorities say Boelter visited the homes of two other Democratic lawmakers without meeting them.

The dog’s injuries were severe enough that the surviving family members allowed him to sleep at a veterinary clinic in Brooklyn Park, Hotman’s hometown. The clinic, the Allied Emergency Veterinary Service, called Gilbert “sweet, tender” and “beloved” on the Gofundme website, raised funds for the care of local police dogs.

Hours after the shooting, a nonprofit that trained service dogs helped Paw companies post a photo on Gillybert’s Facebook and smiled with murdered Minnesota lawmakers. The Hotmans provide dogs with a foster family to help them train them to become service animals, and one of them Minnie graduated to assist a veteran.

But Help Paw says in its article that Gilbert “the ultimate career changed.”

Rep. Erin Koegel, one of Holtman’s fellow countrymen, told the Associated Press that the Golden Hound “didn’t get out of school” and “Melissa hopes he fails so she can keep him.” According to Kare-TV, Gilbert is considered “too friendly” to be a service dog.
