It is Superman A week, aside from some unwise dimness, and doing my best to ruin the fun, I have always enjoyed revisiting my favorite Superman media.
One of the big blue cornerstones in my growth is Superman: Animation Serieschange the subsequent game Batman: Animated Series. While the series is known for its darker, more tragic stories, Superman: Animation Series The original superhero and the smartest and best in his world are often exemplified.
But the show is willing to dip its toes into darker materials. While most people might name the future alternative plot “The Brave New City” as the show’s darkest outing, there is another episode that is more grim than the fascist Superman. It reminds us why Clark Kent is the most important part of Superman.
“The late Mr. Kent”
In “The Late Mr. Kent,” the episode begins with the funeral of Clark Kent. It turns out that Clark is investigating the assault of the prisoner’s dead prisoner and discovering evidence that saved him from him. On the way to provide evidence, a car bomb explodes and Superman believes he is in a scene where he cannot reappear Clark Kent without giving up his secret identity.
It’s a solid premise for a Superman story to think about why Clark Kent is an important part of the world. Not only is he a legitimate investigative journalist trying to do the right thing, but his so-called death reveals what he means to colleague Lois Lane.
There was also a small but crucial moment when Clark and his parents came home. They began to discuss how to move forward. Parkent said Clark could never be Clark anymore. “But I’m Clark! I need to be Clark. If I’ve been Superman all the time, I’d go crazy!”
Here, this episode really hits the importance and necessity of Clark Kent. He is not an act that is solely for the benefit of others. He is not the costume that Superman wears. Clark Kent is Clark Kent and needs to be him because Superman is the character he plays. If he had to play him forever, he wouldn’t actually be true to himself.
While it’s all good theme meat, the darkness of this episode becomes even sharper when the villain is revealed.
Bad cop, no donuts
It turns out that the Metropolitan Police Force detective Bowman is the real killer and has been doing everything he can to cover up his track, including the sentencing of an innocent person to death. Just an animation series that mainly targets children is dark enough in itself. But it becomes more agile!
Not only do we have a corrupt, murderous cop as a bad guy, but his ultimate fate is one of the most shocking fates in any superhero cartoon. After Superman stopped executing and saved innocent people, the ending lets Bowman go to his own execution.
I won’t be punishing the death penalty for this piece, but I’m going to say that even talking about this subject is a dark material for children’s performance, especially since Bowman realizes that Clark Kent is Superman, and execution gang throws the switch.
“The Late Mr. Kent” is correctly celebrated as one of the greatest plots Superman: Animation Series. It offers a more focused point than Clark instead of Superman and thinks why there is no Superman without Clark Kent. It then gets stuck with an ending that must be considered to be trusted.
