Flames from Delta engines are captured on video; jets land in slack and safe
The fire broke out on one of Delta Airlines’ aircraft’s engines after taking off at Los Angeles International Airport late last week, but after a quick turnaround, the jets landed safely.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, Flight 446, the route from Los Angeles International Airport to Atlanta, was cycled on Friday afternoon and landed around 2:10 p.m.
Boeing 767-400, with 226 passengers on board, two pilots and seven flight attendants. Shortly after takeoff, the crew received an instruction to issue the left engine of the aircraft.
By chance, the camera operator for a Los Angeles flight is a YouTube channel whose planes come in and out of the Lax and just happen to catch up with the Delta 446, just like its engine caught fire. The video shows the plane tilting towards the sky, flames shooting out of the left engine.
“Wow, hold on, that’s not good.” The camera operator said as the flames continued to burn. “Oh my goodness.” A few minutes later, the video showed the plane landing safely as the fire truck drove towards it. The plane was able to return to the gate itself and rebooked passengers on other flights.
Later, people who claimed to be passengers or passengers’ family posted comments in the video.
“I was sitting in the middle aisle,” one wrote. “I couldn’t see the smoke or the burning, but some people saw it. These 10 minutes were really scary! Even if we were panicked inside, everyone was very calm. Thanks so much for being on land now!”
Another said their daughter was on the plane, adding: “The crew of the flight has been excellent and has been calming down. The safe return of everyone, it is the safe return of everyone.”
