Charlie Woods T-2 in Junior PGA, Hope to Seale Ryder Cup Spot

Charlie Woods won a spot on the Junior Ryder Cup team on Thursday.

The 16-year-old Tiger Woods’ son ranked second in the Junior PGA Championship in the Ackerman-Allen course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in Lafayette, Western Indiana.

His 202 shot this week was lower than 202.

Players are competing for two automatic positions for the junior Ryder Cup team, which will run for Europe from September 23-25 at Nassau Country Club and New York’s Bethpage Black. There is also a captain’s draft pick, although Woods, who ranks No. 20 in the latest U.S. Junior Golf Association rankings, is unlikely to be selected.

Woods never competed.

He said he hopes to control his fate with strong results on Friday.

“It’s so fun,” Woods said of his third round. “I had a really fun chip at 16, but I just like being there, having fun and hoping there’s a big win tomorrow.”

Woods endured a mixed-race round Thursday. He had 3 back-to-back birdies and made nine birdies completely, but he fell into four bogeys.

“My round was very up and down, which gave me a heart attack,” Woods said. “But the nine birdies were nice. A few threes, I made some mistakes today, but overall it was pretty stable. The position is very good tomorrow.”

Woods rose at Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, and Woods won the AJGA’s Taylormade Invitational in May. He missed the recent cuts from the American junior amateurs. He did not make a promise from the university.

Lunden Esterline leads the 19-year-old PGA after hitting the third round No. 66. From Andover, Kansas, is the Auburn proposal in 2027.

Pennson Badgett tied for second with Woods after shooting 67 on Thursday. Badgett from Pilot Hill, North Carolina is Tennessee in 2026.
