Authorities have identified the remains of a human foot found in a hiking boot about three months ago, linking it to the fisherman who disappeared in September 1997.
In a press release Tuesday, August 5, the Seville County Sheriff’s Office announced the boot was found on May 16 in Fishlake, Utah. Investigators later determined that the shoe was made in 1996, about a year before David White, Washington, Utah, disappeared.
Before the sheriff’s office said White planned to fish with his friends and rented a hotel room nearby. When these plans collapsed, White decided to go fishing.
Later it was discovered that White’s boat was trolling on the fish lake and there was no one on the boat. The sheriff’s office continued, and a pair of shoes and hats were also found floating, which seemed to indicate that the fisherman might have fallen into the water.

“There were no witnesses at the time. So far, it’s a mystery.”
The remains of the newly discovered boots were taken to the Utah Medical Examiner’s Office. DNA samples were taken from the remains and one of White’s daughters and sent to Bode Cellmark for evidence.
“The test restored 99.9994% certainty, the DNA samples were related, one was the parents of the other. We are happy to share this with the white daughter,” the Seville County Sheriff’s Office said.
“We would like to sincerely thank the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, Sar’s, Sar, Detective Sgt Pearson, Detective Sgt Larsen, Sheriff Curtis and Moulton Detectives, in a statement included in the sheriff’s office press release,” White’s daughter Stefanie Bennett said in a statement included in the sheriff’s office press release.
Bennett continued: “We are also very grateful to the individual who found the shoes and his dog – without them we wouldn’t be where we are today.”
