Tiger recalls right-handed Codi Heuer From Triple-A Toledo, with the right fit Luke Jackson Specify the assignment. The moves have not been officially announced, but Detroit News’s Craig McCosky is the reporter who communicates them.
The Tigers picked up a few weeks after Jackson was released by the Rangers. He had a tough season in Texas but had a good record so the Tigers shoveled him in hopes of rebounding.
Unfortunately, they didn’t get it. He threw 4 2/3 innings for Detroit, allowing four hits and five walks to win four runs while hitting four. Add to his results with the Rangers, he scored an average run of 4.54 in 39 2/3 innings this year. His 52.5% ground ball rate is good, but his 16.1% strikeout rate and 13.8% walk rate are significantly worse than the league average.
Despite the rough numbers, he might shoot again somewhere. Rangers are still on the remaining 1.5mm salary. This means another club can sign Jackson, paying the lowest price of $760k league any time spent on the roster. This amount will be subtracted from the fees paid by the ranger.
From 2018 to 2024, Jackson threw in the professional 289 2/3 innings with a 3.91 ERA. His walking rate was a little high at 10.2% at that time, but he hit 27.1% of the batsman and allowed his opponent to hit the ground with 54.3%.
This year’s punching incident hasn’t been there yet, which is why he is now designated as a two-time assignment. But as the trade deadline passes, it’s hard for the club to find useful pitching upgrades. Since Jackson has a good record and is essentially free, some teams may play him soon.
