New life in England and what to do in Ellen DeGeneres

On a Sunday afternoon in late July, Ellen DeGeneres Walk to the stage of the historic Cheltenham Everyone Theater in Cheltenham, England, Harry style‘”You’re so golden,” then sat in front of nearly 700 people for an amazing Q&A session. During the event, the former talk show host (under radar since her long-running Chatfest ended in 2022), discusses everything from her early days at Showbiz to the future from Grace to 2020.
She also sheds light on her recent decision to leave her beloved Montecito, California, at the UK’s Green Ranch (67-year-old DeGenares) and her 17-year-old wife, Portia de Rossi,52, formally moved to a idyllic area of the Cotswolds-English countryside filled with rolling hills, stone houses… and luxurious privacy-seeking A-Listers David and Victoria Beckham. “It’s absolutely beautiful,” she told the audience that she adopted home. “Everything is better here.”
Sources said DeGeneres found her happy place. She spent a satisfying day, taking her chicken, taking sheep out of the open-air living room, and walking to the local bar for lunch. “It’s a different way of life for her,” an insider told US Weekly. “She’s very cold and on her element.” She and De Rossi live in a stunning 10,000-square-foot home called Hiaven, who they bought for a reported $26 million. (Their original Cotswolds property, Kitesbridge Farm, is currently on sale for $30 million.)
This is a new chapter for DeGeneres – it is also an opportunity to refresh your career. “I love my chicken here, but I’m a little bored,” she told the English Broadcasting Corporation and the host Richard Bacon During the July 20 event, it was pointed out that she is still figuring out her next move. (A few days later, it was announced that DeGeneres had signed with WME Talent Agency.) “I don’t know what I should do,” she said. “I will choose it very carefully.”
DeGeneres and De Rossi have been thinking about crossing the pond for some time. “They have been to and looked at the house before, but are not sure when they will do so,” one insider said. “When they found the right place, they jumped on it.” They initially planned to stay in England for only a few months of the year but decided to live it permanently after the 2024 election. DeGeneres said in the Q&A that she and De Rossi were in Cotswolds Donald TrumpThe presidency was announced. “We’re like, ‘We’re staying here. We’re not going back.'” (They chose to sell Kitesbridge and move to Hiaven because, according to DeGeneres, the newer home has a horse facility, and De Rossi “can’t survive without horses.”)

She tends to live. “Allen has been farming and gardening, caring for her animals,” the insider said. DeGeneres shared photos and videos of her work on all of the aforementioned work, along with her and De Rossi’s footage of boating and rowing on its 100 acres in a cozy, large village. “The people close to her have never seen her happier.” DeGeneres revelled to the UK to Bacon, saying she liked the “absolutely beautiful” scenery and architecture, adding: “I really like the people and [the] The fish and chips were delicious. Everything you see is fascinating, it’s just a simpler way of life. ”
Privacy is a huge focus for DeGeneres and de Rossi, but they’re chatting all the time. “[Ellen and Portia] One source shared that there are interesting things to say. They are friendly to locals and want to live a normal life, but are upset with any press. A great resident added: “I just met them very briefly, but as far as I know, everyone with them seems to imply that they are very friendly, well-accompanied and truly committed to making England their home.” ”
Still, many locals don’t seem to realize Degerenes’ celebrity status. The second source in the area told us Several residents revealed that when asked about her, they “never heard of it.” “But the word of mouth, there are a lot of people here – there are a lot of people here – don’t watch afternoon TV.” Whether or not DeGeneres endorsed DeGeneres, Great Tew residents believed she and De Rossi had received a warm welcome from the community. “As far as I know, there is nothing ‘frost’ here. I think this side of the Cotswolds is very welcoming and friendly.”
The two were frequent visitors to the exclusive club SOHO farmhouse and were found to have Sunday lunch at the 16th-century inn Falkland Arms Pub in the heart of the town. “It’s a maze of cozy nooks and crannies, dark, often dim ceilings and a frenzy atmosphere,” said one visitor. “Ellen and Portia are easily overlooked.”

They have also been spending time with famous friends. They attended a star-studded gathering of British TV hosts Jeremy ClarksonFarmer Dog Bar in November 2024 and have dinner with former talk show host James Corden Celebrating De Rossi’s birthday in February at Chiltern Firehouse in London. (Corden bought the property about an hour from Great Tew in Oxfordshire.) “They have a good friend group,” the insider said, adding that DeGeneres has traveled to the U.S. several times since the relocation.
Not all perfect. DeGeneres and De Rossi “starts of rock” in Cotswolds, a third source said. The Kitesbridge Farm Area was flooded a few days after they moved into a severe storm and they had to find their own ground while acclimating to farm life. “Things aren’t as luxurious as they are in Montecito,” the source said. DeGeneres admitted in her Q&A that the cold gray weather made some habits. “Winter is tough, but I still like it because we are not used to the season in California,” she admitted.
Another “Hollywood” question? The third source said the couple’s two cars, an old-fashioned Land Rover defender and a Land Rover Discovery, were too big to overcome the bridge that directly leads to the town’s width and weight limits. “[They’ve] Sources shared that getting used to a long journey, it was a trip of three miles. ”[It’s] Probably faster than long-distance drives. ”
The third source also said that the more modern Hiaven (with floor-to-ceiling windows and an infinity pool) is better suited for the couple. Overall, the relocation brings DeGeneres and De Rossi closer. “There is less stress on work pressure and more shared activities,” the insider explained. The two were found holding hands during a romantic stroll on London’s Bond Street on July 29. “It’s a calm Allen, so she’s easier to go everywhere. The development of arrest Alum retired in 2018. “Potia quit the show a long time ago, so she didn’t leave her career,” the insider added. “She has shrunk.”
The cross-continental move put DeGeneres in some gratifying distance from Hollywood. For your approvalshe joked that she was “eliminated”. While sitting down on July 20, she said the sting of the remains of the scandal. “I hate people thinking I am [mean]. Because I know who I am. I know I am an understanding and compassionate person. So, this hurts my feelings. ”
Now, she is weighing what choice she wants to make next. “I’m always the happiest on stage,” she told Bacon. “It’s the best feeling.” (She also said she would love to do another talk show in the UK, but was unsure the format was no longer valid.) For now, the first insider said DeGeneres “embraces this reinvention. She abandoned Hollywood drama for a more peaceful life.”
