Every day is a wonderful day for STEM, but November 8 is National STEM Day founded in 2015 by STEM Day in the United States. This angel gives teachers the opportunity to focus on the excitement of science, technology, engineering and mathematics and show students the pace of development in these fields. Introduce National STEM Day to your classroom

Design creative stem experiences for all ages

National STEM Day brings a world of experimentation for children, requiring minimal preparation. Just watch students design something great using what they have on hand. By adding circuits, design challenges, or other goals, these activities are easy to adapt to any grade.

  • Create a wearable widget: Give students random classroom materials and challenge them to design wearable gadgets.
  • Improve daily objects: Let students plan how to improve daily items used at home or at school.
  • Design a wind-energy vehicle: Provide students with wheels and other materials to design a car made by blown air. You can even hold a competition!
  • Create a maze: Young students can design a simple paper maze, while older students create a 3D maze for ball navigation.
  • Draft sculpture: Use paper, cardboard and found objects to design sculptures with moving parts, such as cell phones or wind chimes.
  • Investigate the magnetism of pennies: Test whether they have magnetic properties by trying to attract different materials.
  • Building a paper robot: Create robots using only paper. For older students, challenge them to make a balanced finger balance.
  • Assemble the found object machine: Design a purpose for the machine and then challenge students to create it using the object found.

Use TPT resources to start national STEM day entry track

Emphasize the importance of science and engineering on National STEM Day, but make sure excitement and learning won’t end in November. Students who constantly inspire their careers and concepts throughout the year. Explore a wide range of STEM resources for TPTs of all ages to maintain momentum and enrich each STEM course.
