Lamont named James H. Ellery Award Winner | theahl.com

Springfield, Massachusetts. …The American Hockey League today announced Coachella Valley Firebirds broadcast producer and host Gino Lamont Has been selected as James H. Elery Memorial Award In the 2024-25 season.

The James H. Ellery Memorial Award is awarded annually to honor outstanding media coverage in the American Hockey League. It was first proposed in 1964-65 and respects the late Jim ElliriUntil his death in 1964, he served as the Alliance Secretary and Director of Publicity for 17 years.

Lamont served as pre-match, halftime and post-match host in the local regular season and playoffs of the Firebirds. He also made all aspects of these “Hockey Night Coachella Valley” broadcasts, including creating rundowns, booking interview guests, and studying Firebirds, their opponents, and other American hockey leagues, providing engaging insights each night. Lamont, who has been a member of the regional media community for nearly three decades, has previously served as news director for KMIR-TV in Palm Springs, and his extensive broadcast background and passion for Firebirds helped educate the team on hockey and AHL fans.

In addition to his work at the Coachella Valley on Hockey Night, Lamont serves as the brand ambassador for Firebirds, representing the team at many events in the area each year.

Since 1936, the AHL has been the top development league for players, coaches, managers, executives and broadcasters in every national hockey league organization. Nearly 90% of today’s NHL players are graduates of the American Hockey League, with more than 130 members of the Hockey Hall of Fame spending some time in their careers.
