Derrick Rose’s first jersey heads to the Bulls after rack on January 24

The Chicago Bulls have officially set a date to commemorate hometown legend Derrick Rose.

The group announced Thursday that his first jersey will retire in 2026 after playing against the Boston Celtics at the United Center on January 24, 2026.

That night, Rose’s phone number will be presented along with banners from franchise icons Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Bob Love and Jerry Sloan. It marks the fifth Jersey retirement in team history.

For Ross, this moment is personal. In response to the announcement, the 2011 MVP shared a heartfelt message with fans on Instagram:

“The game has given me more than ever before,” he wrote. “From Englewood to the foot of the foot, my story has always been to make the city proud. It’s not mine, it’s for Chicago. Peace and Love, Winnie.”

The Bulls confirmed that Rose will celebrate throughout the season. In a statement released via NBA.com, the team said:

“No player will wear #1 for the Chicago Bulls again. The Bulls will retire his jersey #1 on January 24, 2026, to celebrate Derrick Rose’s impact on the Chicago Bulls and the city of Chicago. Derrick will celebrate throughout the season, including throughout the season, including in the other four seasons, and during additional game dates, the collection of pictures will be played on the final gate while enjoying the final supply.”

Fans will have the opportunity to collect limited edition statues related to key milestones in Ross’ career, such as his 2009 Rookie of the Year Award and his historic 2011 MVP season. Giveaway Night is scheduled for February 22 and March 19 November 4 and November 4.

The Bulls paid tribute to Rose earlier this year as “D-Rose Night” which included tributes from teammates such as Joakim Noah, Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer.

Jersey Retirement Night appears to be the most expensive Bulls home game on record.
