Las Vegas community is shocked by over 600 illegally parked cars in growing church
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Hundreds of illegally parked cars occur once a year, but lifelong neighbors disagree and were shocked by the county vote for the property’s expansion, members of the Las Vegas Church said.
Hamere Noah Kidane Mihret & Saint Michael Ethiopian Orthodox Church held an early holiday ceremony, which neighbors said brought more than 600 cars, most illegally parked in the county’s “no parking lot” sign.
Neighbors now call 8 news and see parking spaces that cover a mile and block South Lindel Road and lead to West Russels Road. One member said parking was illegal under the sign, but not a problem because the county did not enforce the “no parking” rule.

“We respect and appreciate the diversity nearby,” said neighbor Daria Wu. “However, it seems that the congregation may have exceeded the infrastructure our neighbors can support.”
Wu and her group of neighbors gathered to point out the problems they had during their church service: a surge in high-speed driving, parking signs and illegally parked cars.
“Sometimes it’s not good to have your driveway blocked by someone’s car,” she said.

Neighbors said they contacted Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft and used the FixIt app as they told, but nothing has changed in the past few years.
“We documented this and provided evidence that we found no follow-up,” Wu said.
An elder at the church told 8 News that there is now a lawyer calling the TV station back by the deadline, but no calls. 8 News now asks for a spokesperson or leader from the church, but is told that no one can call them, which is unresponsive. An email was also sent to the church without any response.
The church is currently awaiting approval for the expansion of the Clark County Commissioner Commission they own.
“We hope that the assessment of potential expansion, which also includes commercial kitchens, can really consider how this will affect our neighbors,” Wu said. “Again, expectations for one person [rural preservation neighborhood] Too. ”
Peter and Carol Sidlow’s residence is the home of Peter and Carol Sidlow, a 30-year-old resident of the community. When the church opened around 2012, Carol and some other neighbors walked over a gift basket to welcome the congregation to the area.
“We brought flowers, brought them gifts, and stayed for a while,” Carol said. “But we welcome them because that’s what to do.”
Carol and Peter said that as the church’s congregation began to grow, parking, parking problems began almost immediately as people parked on their lawns and driveways.

“They have the right to be there, but there are certain rules,” Peter said. “I believe they should stick with it, but they don’t seem to do that.”
The Clark County Commission is expected to vote on the expansion of the church next month.
