Donald fills Europe’s Ryder Cup team with familiar names

Virginia Water, England – European captain Luke Donald fills his 12-man roster in the Ryder Cup this month, with six players helping the team win the Rome trophy two years ago.
Shane Lowry, Jon Rahm, Sepp Straka, Viktor Hovland, LudvigÅberg and Matt Fitzpatrick announced Monday that Donald will be drafted against the United States against the United States on Bethpage Black from September 26-28.
Donald will have a familiar lineup in New York, with 11 of the 12 players who won the Ryder Cup for Europe in 2023. Indeed, the only two-year change was Rasmus Hojgaard Play instead of his twin brother Nicolai.
Hojgaard is the only Ryder Cup rookie, automatically qualifying with Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Robert Macintyre, Justin Rose and Tyrrell Hatton.
The last time there was only one rookie in Europe was in 2012, when Nicolas Colsaerts helped the famous comeback on his last day in what was called the “Medina Miracle.” That was the last time a team won the Ryder Cup on the way.
“Obviously, Roma has a lot of continuity,” Donald said. “It’s unusual to have so many people coming back, but it just shows how these players are doing.
“But even if we have a lot of continuity, in the United States, it’s another animal to play with. We understand how difficult it is.”
Stick to ranking
Lowry, Straka, Aberg, Hovland and Fitzpatrick ranked 7-11 in Europe’s Ryder Cup rankings, so Matt Wallace ranked 12, shed tears when he discussed the meaning of picking for the team on Sunday – probably missed himself unfortunately.
However, the choice was Rahm, who had won two major titles, was the former world No. 1 and was recently the solo champion of Liv Golf for the second consecutive year.
The U.S. team has announced
Captain America Keegan Bradley announced his draft pick last week, with the big news that they didn’t include himself.
Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Cameron Young, Ben Griffin, Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay were selected for the team’s Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Harris English, Bryson DeChambeau, JJ Spaun and Russell Henley.
The Americans will have four rookies: Spaun, Henley, Young and Griffin.
