Star Trek idol William Shatner was interviewed last year Canadian media He revealed something surprising: He didn’t necessarily rule out returning to the franchise that made him famous. He doesn’t want to come back just for a cameo, just hope Kirk will come back if “there is a reason for a real character to appear.” Well, the reason he needs to return now is simple: Star Trek is in Creative Free Fall, and Captain Kirk’s performance is probably the only thing that can save this series.
The precedent for Kirk’s show has been Star Trek: Picardderivatives allow Jean-Luc Picard to bring back an unfortunate experience with new and old friends. Unfortunately, the show only had one of its last season dedicated to fan service that saved a messy failure. Captain Picard is a pretty dynamic character Star Trek: The Next Generation. He learned to let his hair fall (so to say) and form an alliance with the crew, while exploring the scope of responsibility and the infinity of human imagination. The film continues to develop, Picard, showing him the loss of his brother, nephew, and even his weird clone.
This is the reason Picard It’s an unbalanced show: There’s so little left to explore with Picard that the series has to invent a bunch of weird dramas, including Picard becoming the character Nuggrata, as their planet cares about Romulans after their planet is destroyed. Oh, the writer gave him a suicide mother and an ancestor who was almost killed by Data’s ancestor (or at least Data’s Daddy’s ancestor).
The drama is often weird and rough, and this attempt to add new depth to Picard threatens to undo all the characters on TNG’s development years. Kirk can’t say the same thing, Kirk has a mysterious past with lots of details to explore. this A strange new world The writers clearly agree because they cannot resist exploring Kirk’s life and backstory when possible.
If we had Kirk’s performance, we could get a closer look at aspects that he hinted at in the past but never saw on screen. For example, I would love to learn more about Kirk’s time teaching at Starfleet Academy, where he is obviously known for his crazy strict teacher (no a Maverick’s rule breaker). It would be interesting to know more about how Kirk ultimately beats the Kobayashi Maru scene in Prime Universe, which is mostly seen as a quick gag in Kelvinverse, and deserves more attention to the screen.
I want to learn more about Kirk, including that he was one of the most shocking mass murders of the 23rd century, including the Kodos massacre of 4,000 colonists. But what would Kirk’s solo show actually look like? One option is to reborn Kirk because he is the only one able to deal with his past threats (personally, I am for the sudden appearance of the planet destroyer).
By the way, the idea of resurrecting Kirk is not as crazy as it sounds, as Picard reveals that Section 31 inexplicably keeps Kirk’s body in a storage position where they keep a bunch of old Android research by Noonien Soong. Picard is currently running around in a robot golem corpse provided by a child in Soong, so that’s not all That Crazy thinking Kirk’s mind can be resurrected and placed in the robot’s body. This might allow for some clever writing (perhaps related to cellular decay or Soong’s incomplete notes) to explain why Kirk looks so old when he comes back.
If William Shatner doesn’t want to do the drain action scenes required for all such shows, then I have a simple idea: an anthology show where the older Kirk is the owner, telling someone (maybe Carol Marcus, maybe just a personal log) that when he’s gone missing when he was young. Then we’ll see those stories played by Paul Wesley, who is A strange new world. Paramount may even be more likely to be on a show like this, as it would be cheaper and safer than doing a full TOS restart, which TOS REBOT has been in for a long time.
But they did, and Paramount needed to bring William Shatner back to Star Trek with Kirk’s performance. After all these decades, Shatner’s captain remains the most well-known character in the most famous sci-fi series of all time. Since Paramount wants to make Star Trek bigger and better than ever, the choice is simple: They need to go back in time to bring back someone who can help this franchise and boldly move towards the future.
