Jagtar Singh Johal acquitted in India terror case
A Scottish man who has been detained in India for seven years has been acquitted in nine cases against him.
Jagtar Singh Johal, of Dunbarton, faces several terrorist charges related to political violence in northern India but has never been convicted.
The 37-year-old was arrested in Punjab in November 2017 just weeks after his wedding.
His family and legal team said all cases against him were similar and the other eight should be abandoned now.
He was accused of traveling to Paris in 2013 to hand over £3,000 to his accomplices to understand that the money will be used to fund a series of attacks against Punjab’s Indian nationalists and other religious leaders.
The trial of Mr. Johal in his eight worst cases against him began in 2022 and is underway.
