Farmingdale, NY – The world’s No. 1 player looks a lot like Bethpage Black’s Ryder Cup Day 1.
Scottie Scheffler participated in the competition, hoping to dominate as much as he did on the PGA Tour as this year’s Grand Slam. Instead, the three-time main champion failed to win in both games on Friday and has been winning 2-4-2 all the time. He hasn’t won the entire point since 2021, when it was in a whistle-blowing strait race.
“When you’re the number one player in the world, you may not be the best one of him one day, and you usually bounce back,” Captain America Keegan Bradley said. “We’re not worried about Scottie Scheffler.”
Scheffler played with JJ Spaun in the afternoon, who wasn’t as sharp as he usually went from T-shirt to Green, looked confused multiple times on the green and disappeared after putting.
“We gave a lot of opportunities,” Schaeffler said. “It’s really just my putting shortfall.”
The most striking result, however, was in the morning when Scheffler and Foursomes partner Russell Henley lost to LudvigÅberg and Matt Fitzpatrick.
“We just didn’t have enough putters. We had a chance. “I don’t think the putters were falling.” ”
Putting is an incredible topic among American players struggling on Friday. Bryson DeChambeau also lost two games in the afternoon with Justin Thomas and Ben Griffin.
“They did everything,” Deschamps Ball said. “I felt like a clutch when I needed it, but… there were a lot of putts that didn’t serve us. Luck is right around them now.”
Bradley quotes several times the number of putters made by Europeans. Although he inserted Cameron Young into Thomas on Saturday, the rest of the pairings lost on Friday morning, including Collin Morikawa and Harris English (who fell 5 and 4 at Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood) will be held again in the morning meeting.
“We stick to our plans,” Bradley said. “We won’t panic and make this mistake. We will stick to what we know.”
According to Datagolf, the Morikawa-English pairing is the worst potential tandem of any of the 132 possible combinations obtained based on the obtained strokes.
“We had a plan here this week and the players were ready for that plan,” Bradley said. “We looked at the data. We looked at the strokes we got. In the morning meeting, we didn’t do any putts. Really, there were hardly any putts. Everything else was fine.”
Bradley stressed on Friday that he told the team that only 28% of the total points were decided and that there was a lot of golf. ESPN Research said this is the fourth largest deficit the U.S. team faced in the local cup on the first day of the Ryder Cup. In the first three times, only one resulted in Team America’s return to victory: in Brooklyn in 1999.
“Listen, we know it’s going to be tough. We know it’s going to be tough,” Bradley said. “We didn’t expect to be here, it’s not a tough week. ….. A stage where tomorrow they have to go there and prove to everyone that they’ve fallen now and now they have to catch up. I like that.”
