4 Injured Injured in truck crash with Amtrak train in Santa Barra County
Authorities said a disabled semi-truck hit a disabled semi-truck on Wednesday afternoon, four people were injured and thousands of diesel fuel spilled.
According to an Amtrak spokesman, when Amtrak Train 14 is north of Longpark-Sef Station in Santa Barbara County, heading from Los Angeles to Seattle from Los Angeles. There were 218 passengers and crew on board.
According to department spokesman Scott Safechuck, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to the crash near Highway 1 and Brown Road and transported four people to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment. He said the truck driver was seriously injured and three passengers were slightly injured.
Safechuck said the semi-truck was struck down sideways and spilled about 3,600 gallons of diesel fuel.
He said the train stayed upright on the track and instructed passengers to stay inside until the bus reached its destination.
Highway 1 is currently closed between Main Street and Brown Road. Amtrak police are working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident.
A truck driver was killed in a similar incident in June when a semi-truck collided with a Metrolink train near Moorpark. In July, a woman was hit by a train while crossing the rails on Ventura.
