Parent-teacher conferences are a great opportunity for families and educators to share insights about their students and build bridges between parents and teachers. This is also a time for teachers to emphasize how building community in the classroom supports student learning, collaboration, kindness, and leadership.
Here are seven strategies you can implement to have positive and productive meetings:
- Flexible attendance options available: Morning, afternoon or evening slots are available for families. If they can’t attend in person, offer virtual meetings or conference calls to keep everyone involved.
- Prepare a mini agenda: Create a simple script or outline to keep meetings focused and on time. Includes warm greetings, student strengths, areas for growth, family support ideas and time for questions.
- Let’s start with the positive: Start every meeting with a compliment, story, or success. A positive first impression builds trust and helps families feel like partners in their child’s learning.
