Twins interested in Scott Servais for managerial role

Former Seattle head coach Scott Service is a candidate to interview for Minnesota’s vacancy, according to La Velle E. Neal III of the Minnesota Star Tribune. Servais will join an extensive roster that includes Vance Wilson, Nick Ponto, Derrick Shelton, James Rosen and Ramon Vazquez as the Twins look to replace Rocco Baldelli.
Servais is Minnesota’s most experienced executive. He spent eight full seasons as captain of the Mariners starting in 2016. Selway led the team to the playoffs in 2022, its first postseason appearance in more than two decades. He was fired during the August 2024 season when the team was 64-64. Servais served as a special assistant with San Diego last season. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports Baltimore is also interested in Servais’ managerial vacancy.
Seattle’s recent division title run under head coach Dan Wilson has overshadowed the tenure of Servais, who helmed the team’s return to action. Prior to Servais’ arrival, the Mariners finished below .500 in five of six seasons. He won 86 games in his debut, finishing second in the AL West. The team hasn’t finished higher than third in the conference since 2007. Seattle won 90 games in both 2021 and 2022, but it wasn’t enough to challenge Houston for the division title. The Mariners defeated the Toronto Raptors in the wild-card round, Servais’ only postseason appearance. The Astros swept them in the ALDS.
Shelton will coach the Buccaneers from 2020 to 2025. He is the only candidate with MLB-level managerial experience. Wilson has been Kansas City’s third base coach for the past six seasons. He recently interviewed for a management opening in San Francisco. Rosen has been the Yankees hitting coach since 2024. Vasquez was one of the first names to come up in Minnesota searches. He has been Boston’s bench coach since 2023.
Baldelli was relieved of his duties in 2025 after winning just 70 games. He has been captain since 2019. Baldelli recently expressed interest in coaching again and emerged as a potential target for the Angels.
