Trump says new technology will make Reagan’s Star Wars a reality

President Donald Trump hopes to make Ronald Reagan’s Star Wars missile defense program a reality from the 1980s. He insists that new technologies can ultimately achieve this.

Trump delivered a long speech to Congress on Tuesday night, including dishonest nonsense that fascist presidents have long been famous for. But, as the most powerful person in the country, Trump has the ability to make things happen. He wanted to create a missile defense system for the United States called the “American Golden Dome”, formerly known as the “American Iron Dome”.

“As Commander-in-Chief, my focus is on building the most powerful military in the future. As a first step, I ask Congress to fund the state-of-the-art Golden Dome missile defense shield to protect our homes, all made in the United States.”

Trump went on to invoke Ronald Reagan’s name, which is clearly one of Trump’s favorite presidents, especially since the current president seems to be permanently trapped in the 1980s mentality.

“Ronald Reagan wanted to do this a long time ago, but the technology isn’t there, not even close, yet,” Trump continued. “But now we have the technology. In fact, it’s incredible. There are other places that have it, Israel has it. Other places that have it. The United States should have it, too.”

Trump released his pursuit of Reagan’s Star Wars on January 27, when he issued an executive order calling for the creation of the “next-generation missile defense shield.”

“President Ronald Reagan strives to build an effective defense for nuclear attacks, and although the program has led to many technological advances, it has been cancelled before it can be achieved,” the executive order said.

Initially, Trump’s plan, known as the Iron Dome of the United States, copied the name of the ground system from Israel, but the name was trademarked by an Israeli company, so the gold-obsessed president would choose a new name with a gold theme.

Officially known as the Strategic Defense Program, Reagan’s Star Wars was announced in 1983 as a space-based missile interceptor program that never properly escaped from the ground. At the time, critics compared the system to something similar to trying to shoot a bullet with another one. This technology is simply not progressive enough, it requires militarization of space, which was previously prohibited by international treaties. Trump’s executive order from January convened the Anti-Equestrian Missile Treaty, which the United States withdrew in 2002.

The general idea is to protect the United States from missiles, although it is unclear who will fire at the Americans, our old allies, or our new allies again? The problem Trump is facing now is to create missile defense shields covering the entire United States. Israel’s iron dome system can obviously protect a much smaller area from short-range rockets. Does Trump expect Canada or Mexico to launch a rocket attack soon? In any other era, such a question is ridiculous.

Unfortunately for Trump, it is not clear whether the technology is really so large there. The executive order did not provide details on how to build a golden dome. In theory, if you raise enough money in a missile defense agency and the U.S. Space Force (which already has systems for tracking missiles) and any number of private contractors, you can come up with a system. But Trump has been insisting that he try to cut government spending.

This brings you the issue that Congress should fund projects like this. Although Trump said he hopes Congress finds money for the project, it is unclear why the House and Senate agreed to such a large new fee. Trump has asked Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to look for about $50 billion in cuts that could be redistributed to projects like the Golden Dome, but that is not anything to work. Obviously, the illegal act will not stop Trump. The Trump White House has ignored the direct court orders and the court can do nothing. So if Trump can’t get Congress to fund this, he obviously has other options, even if they aren’t completely legal.

Will Trump take off his shiny new missile defense shield? Who knows? But the challenge is obviously much larger than expanding Israel’s iron dome, and it’s unclear why the United States needs such a system. At the moment, everything seems to be in the air, including who may be regarded as “allies” of the United States. Trump has charged tariffs on Canada and Mexico, while threatening to attack Europe next. All reports say the Trump administration plans to impose sanctions on Russia while imposing smaller tariffs on China.

It’s a whole new world for Americans, without telling what tomorrow will bring, let alone the second year. The new missile defense system could have been funded entirely by a plan ruled by Secretary Heggs. Moreover, the United States can wage war with allies such as Canada, Mexico, Greenland and Panama. There is no explanation at this point. Americans should be prepared for anything.
