Lorenzo Musetti’s trip to Vienna ended in Saturday’s semi-final against Alexander Zverev, but the Italian’s performance still puts him in good position to qualify for his Nitto ATP Finals debut. Musetti leads the PIF ATP Live Tour in Turin in eighth place, 440 points ahead of Felix Auger-Aliassime, and is looking to seal a spot in the season finale with a strong week at the Rolex Paris Masters.

Four spots are still up for grabs at the PIF ATP Turin Live event as Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Zverev and Novak Djokovic have qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals. Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Alex de Minaur and Musetti currently occupy these positions, with Auger-Aliassime, Casper Ruud and Daniil Medvedev leading the way. Players have two more weeks to accumulate points, with two ATP 250 events in Athens and Metz following Paris.

Musetti is trying to join up with defending champion Sinner in his hometown of Turin. In addition to making personal history by participating in the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time, if Musetti advances, he will also make Italian history: never before have two Italian singles players advanced to the season finals in the same year. In 2021, Matteo Berrettini qualified but withdrew due to injury after one game. Substitute Sinner replaced him.

In Paris, Musetti will start his campaign against compatriot Lorenzo Sonego or qualifier. He may face Medvedev in the third round.

Shelton is also looking to make his debut in Turin and will face either Flavio Coboli or Tomas Machak in his first match, with Andrei Rublev a likely third-round opponent. Fritz, a 2022 Turin semi-finalist and 2024 finalist, is seeking a third appearance in the Nitto ATP Finals. If both qualify, it will be the first time two Americans have qualified for the year-end event since Andy Roddick and James Blake did so in 2006.

De Minaur hopes to return to Turin for a second consecutive season. Like Musetti, the Australian cemented his place in the PIF ATP Live Event in Turin this week with a semi-final performance. Sinner ends his run on Saturday in Vienna.

Fritz and De Minaur could meet in a crucial quarter-final in the top half of the draw, with both players vying for qualification. They have previously split 10 Lexus ATP Head2Head matches.

everything adds up

Paris offers 1,000 PIF ATP ranking points, and both Auger-Aliassime and Rudd can enter the top eight with the title. Medvedev, winner of the 2020 season finale, needs further points in Athens or Metz to break into the top eight and extend his streak of consecutive Nitto ATP finals to seven.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who currently has 2,585 points, is expected to overtake Medvedev for 12th place after defeating Joao Fonseca in Sunday’s final in Basel. That would put the Spaniard on 2,755 points, 990 points behind Musetti.
