Gleison Bremer knows all about the challenges of elite sport. He is the vice-captain of Juventus Football Club, one of the oldest football teams in the world, and has also represented the Brazilian national team five times.
However, even an athlete like Bremer who has made his mark on the world stage can see many amazing deeds from the list of ATP Tour stars. The 28-year-old, an avid tennis fan whose favorite players include Lorenzo Musetti, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic, arrived at the Inalpi Arena in Turin on Wednesday night for the Nitto ATP Finals.
“Their mentality impressed me the most,” Brehmer told ATPTour.com (in Italian) when asked about the differences between his own sport and tennis. “In tennis you are alone, you have no alibi and you have to take all the responsibility. In football you may not be able to perform at your best if your teammates are helping you.”
The Nitto ATP Finals isn’t the only ATP Tour event Bremer will compete in in 2025. He also competed in the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters in April, where he met Musetti. The Brazilian was courtside during Sinner’s straight-sets win over Alexander Zverev in Turin on Wednesday, and he met with Sinner after the match and congratulated the reigning Turin champion, who is No. 2 in the PIF ATP rankings.
Of course, any Brazilian interested in tennis in 2025 can’t help but be excited about the South American country’s latest crop of rising stars. Joao Fonseca won the 2024 Next Generation ATP Finals hosted by PIF and had a great season in 2025.
Earlier this month, 19-year-old Fonseca won her first ATP 500 title at the Basel Indoors in Switzerland, rising to a career-high No. 24 in the PIF ATP Rankings. For Bremer, the teenager from Rio de Janeiro has the potential to add his name to the list of iconic greats in a country that prides itself on sport.
“He’s young, but he’s on the rise,” Fonseca’s Bremer said. “I think in the future he has the potential to reach the level of those world-class champions. We have missed out on great athletes in the past few years. In the past we had Pele, Ayrton Senna, Guga [Kuerten]”.
