Angels, Anthony Rendon discuss contract buyout with Rendon expected to retire

angels and third baseman Anthony Rendon According to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, acquisition plans are being discussed with Rendon, who is expected to retire. Rendon has one year left on his seven-year, $245MM contract at $38MM.

The Rendon trade has long been a punchline and will surely go down as one of the biggest flops of this era, if not of all time. The Angels received next to nothing in return for their massive investment. Rendon was still a very good player in the first year of his contract, but that happened to be the 202 season, which was shortened to just 60 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, Rendon has been seriously injured. Even if he was able to play, he wouldn’t be of much use.

There will be more to come.
