28 Must-See Movies on Hulu Now (December 2025): ‘Black Swan’ and More

Tracy McGrady (Jonathan Feltre) just can’t catch a break. A graduate student working part-time as a locksmith in Brussels is cheated on by a beautiful stranger named Claire (Natasha Cliff) to unlock an empty apartment so she can grab a bag. She disappears, leaving Maddie to answer gangster Yanik (Romain Duris), whose bag Claire took. Did we mention it’s filled with cash, and Yanik thinks Maddie is in cahoots with Claire to blackmail him?

Maddie buys enough time to find Claire and return the cash to Yannick, but Brussels is locked down due to a raucous Black Lives Matter protest and Theo, one of Yannick’s followers (Jonas Bloquet), secretly dating Claire. This wasn’t McGrady’s night, and if things didn’t go his way, it could have been his last.

Night call is a brilliant action thriller that uses a topical issue – the Black Lives Matter movement – to enrich its already brilliant narrative. Importantly, Maddie was black, so he couldn’t walk around town like the others that night. The film unveils surprise after surprise, but never feels cheap or superficial.
