The heart-pounding graphic thriller on Netflix will make you ditch social media

Whenever an online influencer tries to push an overpriced supplement through a brand partnership, or pulls cheese into the car while banging a box of chips with her fingernails for an ASMR effect, my BS detector immediately goes off. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a guy who tries to eat a Double Quarter Pounder without chewing it for the love of the game, and I tune in every time he posts just to see if he’s going to choke on mayonnaise in the car. Most influencers are harmless as long as you have half a brain in their head. They are brand ambassadors trying to use their personality as a selling point to earn side income.
2022 influencer Take this concept to its extreme, and it will make you never want to log into Instagram again. Is this trip to lush, luxurious Thailand as wonderful as it sounds, or will telling you that the person who booked it actually get a free ride while downplaying that will wreak havoc on your bank account? Worse yet, when others assume the influencer’s identity, can they successfully ruin your entire life so they can live off other people’s money?

Lounging poolside in an exotic location may seem like the ideal vacation, but influencer It’ll make you think twice about booking a trip to an unfamiliar place, especially if you’re traveling alone with only a ring light and an iPhone.
trouble in paradise
influencer We’re first shown exactly how Madison (Emily Tennant) operates when she’s in full social media mode while traveling in Thailand. She takes selfies on beaches and hiking trails, sips fancy craft cocktails at upscale bars, and urges her followers to live the high life through her carefully curated posts. When Madison meets a local named CW (Cassandra Nord), the two immediately hit it off and CW starts taking her to all the spots that look great on the air.

Things take a turn for the worse when Madison returns to the hotel and discovers someone has broken into her room and stolen all of her identity documents. Suddenly stranded in a foreign land, she is forced to rely on the kindness of strangers.
CW convinced Madison to extend her stay so she could pick up replacement documents at the local embassy. Madison is already facing tension from her long-distance boyfriend Ryan (Rory J. Saper) due to his frequent business trips. Madison has complete trust in her new friends, and she has no reason to believe that the CW plans to leave her on an abandoned island to die, steal her identity, and continue her posting plans as if nothing happened. It didn’t take long for viewers to realize that The CW had been doing this for a while, and Madison was just the latest of many victims.

Things get even more confusing when Ryan suddenly shows up, completely unaware that Madison is no longer in the picture and the CW is now running the account, the narrative, and his version of reality.
Don’t believe everything you read online
The CW is an absolute threat. influencerher willingness to take everything from anyone without hesitation is truly disturbing. We got a front-row seat to learn how she manipulates algorithms to her advantage, and why her Photoshop skills are the least of your worries if you meet her. She can pose for the camera with a smile on demand, but there’s nothing behind her eyes to suggest warmth or genuine empathy.

Her intimate knowledge of the streets, tourist traps and influence hotspots only makes her more dangerous as she is constantly looking for her next target. influencer We know awareness is the currency of this world, and The CW treats people the same way brands treat engagement metrics: as a one-shot.
influencer Existing in a world that I would never personally participate in allowed me to watch the film with a healthy detachment and enjoy the kills and tension for what they are. However, if you are serious about living an impactful lifestyle, this movie may scare you straight away. At the very least, it might allow you to target Chili collaborations that you can shoot in your car, rather than traveling overseas and trusting locals who happen to be lurking in your selfies before you even introduce yourself.

The next time someone walks you through that “everyone’s hyping up in the DMs” skin care routine, make sure there aren’t any skeletons in the person you’re paying attention to in their closet, or in this case, buried on the island.

influencer Currently streaming on Netflix. its sequel, influencernow streaming on Shudder.
