Matthew McConaughey is sharing another bizarre “wet dream” anecdote with his fans.
in his life lyrics In a newsletter published on Friday, January 9, McConaughey, 56, explained how a playful dream in 2001 led him to participate in a WWE-style wrestling match in a small African village.
In the newsletter, McConaughey recalled a dream he had while sleeping in a hotel in Dublin, Ireland, in July 2001.
“I had a wet dream,” he wrote. “I was floating on my back in the lower reaches of the Amazon, wrapped in anacondas and pythons, surrounded by crocodiles, piranhas, and a few freshwater sharks. African tribesmen lined the ridge to my left, shoulder to shoulder, as far as the eye could see. I was calm. Eleven frames. Eleven seconds. And then here I was. Again.”
this Magic Mike The actor explained that the vision inspired him to travel to Africa, so he bought a plane ticket to “the vast continent that my wet dream called me to.”
“I bought a one-way ticket to Mali’s capital Bamako and hitchhiked nine hours to the port city of Mopti, where I met a man named Issa Who has a boat,” McConaughey continued.
To hide his true identity, McConaughey recalled telling people he knew his name was David and that he was a writer and boxer.
In a small village in Africa, news spread that there was a stranger among them who claimed to be a champion boxer. McConaughey’s villagers found him and wanted to challenge him to a boxing challenge.

He pointed at my chest, then at his chest, then at a large, dirt, pit,” McConaughey wrote. “I looked at Issa. He smiled. ‘This is Michel. He is the true wrestling champion of the village.’ My heart started racing. Then I heard my own voice whisper, Accept the challenge or you will never regret knowing it. Leave your scent behind. I stood up, pointed at his chest, then at mine, and walked toward the pit. The villagers were going crazy.”
McConaughey went on to describe the intense fight that took place between the men in the first round.
“We spun around head-to-head a few times, gauging each other’s strength, and then Michelle lifted me up, slammed me into him, my chest in his face, and body-slammed me to the ground, knocking the breath out of me. One for him,” McConaughey wrote. “The crowd howled as he tried to pin me down. I fought back, swung my hips, threw my legs over his head, and threw him back. One was mine. We circled, rolled, and drove each other into the dirt. Neither of us could pin the other down. The Chief broke it up. I bled, hyperventilated, and tore my knees and ankles.”

The fight went on for another round, pitting the two against each other, until the two sides reached a stalemate and were “stuck and exhausted until the chief stepped in and called the game,” the actor said.
Looking back later, McConaughey reflected that the WWE-style fight fell through “all because I was chasing a wet dream. Literally.”
This is not the first time dallas buyers club Star claims wet dreams changed the course of his life.
In November 2025, McConaughey claimed in another newsletter that a playful dream led him to find love with his wife Camila Alves.
“I’ve met, spent time with, and dated seriously some amazing women in my life, many of whom are still friends with me to this day, but eventually they all stopped and didn’t stop,” McConaughey wrote at the time. “In my 30s, I was looking for a lifelong love, a best friend, and a mom-to-be. I was always looking for more, I was looking for that one person, and I was looking for her.”
He added, “Then I had a wet dream.”
