“In another country, I’ll have a statue” – Gerald Pike on the edge of tears during the Super Bowl trial
Former Barcelona and Spanish star Gerard Pique testified in court today as part of a trial investigating the Spanish Super Cup tender process. Pique’s Kosmos Company has facilitated an initial deal with the Middle East countries and the Royal Football Federation of Spain (RFEF) to bring the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia.
Pique, who represents the company’s role in the deal, has been accused of fraud and corruption, and Kosmos has secured more than €10 million on the contract and paid him 1.6 million this year. The Catalan star defended his innocence on the matter like former RFEF President Luis Rubiales.
According to the relevance, Pique defended himself that he was a Barcelona player at the time of the deal and had no effect on the cooperation he received from the deal. Sport said he did admit that he called on Rubiales to appeal to Rubiales to accept these cooperation after Saudi Arabia initially did not pay.
Their report ensured that Pique was on the brink of tears during the testimony and specifically requested a statement to the court. Pique explained in a trembling voice that the case had “great damage” to him and his reputation and that he had already won the best contract for RFEF. He also claimed that he should not be harmed, “In another country, I will have a statue.”
