New York jury finds 2 guilty in episode to kill Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad

Jury found two people guilty on all charges of attempting to kill Iranian dissident Masih Alinejadhe is a journalist who lives in New York City.

Rafat Amirov and Polad Omaroy, allegedly members of the Russian mob, will be sentenced in September and face decades of prison. The allegations against them include murder, murder of possession of guns and conspiracy to launder money.

“I am relieved that nearly three years later, the person who murdered me was convicted. But, there is no doubt that the real mastermind of this crime is still in power in Iran. I am waiting for the day when Ali Khamenei and his terror Revolutionary Guard face justice and I hope they are punished,” said Alinejad.

“Now, I’m bombarded with emotions. I cried, I laughed, I even danced. Because today is not just about my survival; it’s about the failure and humiliation of a regime, believing that it can make it silence critics with bullets. They still fail. They’re still here. I’ll continue to fight.

How the judgment fell

The jury filed the case before 1 p.m. Thursday and later sent a note asking for testimony, but the attorney waited for a moment to collect the materials. Before the jury even got the requested material, they sent another note saying they had made the ruling.

Prosecutors told jurors during the closing period that the Iranian government was silent on the Iranian government bounty of the head of Alinejad, who has been the target of several plots in the Islamic Republic of Iran, including kidnapping.
